INCOMING 4TH GRADE PARENT MEETING AT CMS

Tuesday, 11/13 @ 8:30am in room 102 at Corte Madera

This transition meeting will answer questions for parents who have current 3rd graders. There will be a presentation, school tour, classroom visits and a chance to meet and mingle with administration at Corte Madera. There are so many wonderful aspects to share about life at CMS; plan on attending the meeting and finding out the secrets of this hidden gem tucked right under Windy Hill.

All interested parents are invited. Parking is in the lot's visitor parking spaces or street parking just past the school.

If you are unable to attend this meeting there will be a second meeting with the same presentation on Tuesday, May 14 from 12:00-1:00pm.

upcoming cultural assembly:  Extreme Energy

Thanks to the support of the PV-PTO, this Tuesday, we’ll light up Ormondale with the most exciting science show they’ll ever see! From potential energy to (controlled) explosions, from thermal cameras to people-power, explore where energy comes from, and where it ends up. How do we generate the energy we use every day and how do the choices we make affect our environment?

This is one of the most exciting and hands on science based assembly programs touring the country today. Our students will be able to see energy as it feeds giant light bulbs, feel energy through static charges, and create energy themselves through hand cranks and running —not to mention explore energy at the molecular level inside a giant, life-sized snow globe!

second harvest food drive

Ormondale’s Second Harvest Food is this week only, November 5th-9th!  Students decorated paper bags and brought them home last week. We hope you will fill the bag with food to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank.  Last year we earned a bronze award from Second Harvest for our collection efforts -- lets beat that this year!

Bins are available outside of the Ormondale office for donations all week and we’ll have volunteers during car line drop off to help as well.  If you'd like to help, please contact Milana McCullagh ([email protected]).

INCOMING 6TH GRADE PARENT MEETING AT CMS

This CMS meeting will answer questions for parents who have current 5th graders. There will be a presentation, classroom walkthroughs and a chance to ask questions of administration about our Corte Madera Panthers middle school.

CMS Spring Play Parent Meeting

CMS students have voted to perform Almost History:  that whole space-time continuum thing as this spring’s play.  It will be performed April 17 & 18, 2019 in the Woodside Priory School Performing Arts Center Theater.

The play is a comedy in which two people travel to great moments in American history via a time machine, and a group of famous geniuses tries to sort out the disastrous effects of the duo’s mishaps.  Meanwhile, two teens from “today” watch via live-stream and narrate/discuss.  The play has a large cast with great opportunities for character development, historical exploration, and a very salient meta-message about technology and connection today.  It also has a number of technical and scenic considerations to challenge our student backstage crew!

Parents of any CMS student interested in acting or working crew are asked to attend this important meeting on Wednesday November 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the CMS Music Room to learn about the play and the audition/rehearsal/performance schedule and stage-crew opportunities.  We will also discuss expectations for students’ and parents’ responsibilities and volunteer needs.

There is no cost to participate in the play as either an actor or crew member, and all CMS students are eligible to participate.  The play is being produced by PVSD in partnership with Portola Valley Theater Conservatory.

great "fur, scales & tails" ASSEMBLY LAST WEEK!

Last Tuesday the 4th and 5th graders were treated to a PTO sponsored assembly featuring an amazingly entertaining show by Fur, Scales and Tails.  Tracy “The Animal Show Guy” introduced the kids to everything from hamsters and iguanas, to a giant snake named Banana, all while keeping the laughs and smiles going.

Even the teachers got a kick out of watching the kids try to “wave” like a baby turtle and tarantula.  Thanks to Marjel Scheuer and Gaja Frampton, our PTO assembly coordinators, for arranging a fantastic show!

Anti-anxiety/exec function coaching that works!

This generation of students has proven to be one of the most anxiety-ridden populations especially here in "pressure-cooker" Silicon Valley. It affects working memory and ability to truly process information and other Executive Function abilities. With pressures in sports, academia and even social, it is imperative to adopt a way of life that yields a good system for managing anxiety and preventing challenges to self regulation, learning and problem solving. Please email for a complimentary session!!! All workshops taught by a state certified therapeutic expert in Executive Function and Anxiety Reduction.
