CDD THREATENS CREEK ACCESS and VIEWS
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Southbridge residents expressed concern that the creek bank is getting overgrown. Residents and their visitors love to catch/release the large mouth bass and other fish in the creek; photographers have amazing pictures of great blue herons stalking the shoreline, tortoises laying eggs on the creek bank and an occasional river otter swimming by. Community creek access and views in Southbridge are major selling points for realtors.
Without maintenance, the shoreline will get thick with weeds, reeds and wild shrubs. CDD claims the creek is a protected natural waterway, so it can't do anything to clear the growth, although it has previously done so.
The Southbridge BOD contacted Pelican Landing, and Tom Dryden will meet with residents in August. He has asked for photos of what the creek looked like when residents moved here, especially any of the creek in its original state when Southbridge was first settled. Please email your creek photos to [email protected] . before August 7; give an approximate year of the photo. If you do not have digital photos, we will scan your hard copy.
