Hello Parents, Teens, and Youth Ministers -

The Echoes of Worth Team is so excited to see the teens next Friday, January 12th. We are so pleased to announce this weekend is SOLD OUT FOR THE FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW!

Stats:

  • 161 Teens from 24 parishes and 7 Diocese
  • 50 Staff from 17 parishes and 5 Diocese (includes a Nurse and two priest chaplains

As the weekend quickly approaches, we want to give you key information you will need. Note: this is a lot of information, but please read all the information carefully as it should answer any questions you may have.

Retreat Theme and Workshops:

St. John Paul II was instrumental in pointing us back to our origins as man and woman using anthropology,
philosophy, and the Sacred Scriptures. His great work, Man and Woman He Created Them: the Theology of the Body, is groundbreaking and relevant to the needs we face today in an often confusing and inhumane culture. We aim to bring light and shine goodness on the beauty of love as created by God and called forth by Jesus to live out. It is in our Echoes of Worth Mission statement to be:

"A movement calling for Bay Area young people to hear their Echo of Worth (made in God's image and likeness) and reverb that echo to others they encounter"

Some of the content can be sensitive which is why we try and equip you, the parents, with as much information about the nature of the retreat and how to raise healthy and holy children in today's world.

In addition to our Keynote Sessions we offer Men's and Women's session as well as a round of workshops. This year's workshop topics are:

  • Relativism & Moral Decision Making, Human Dignity, Passionate Pro-Life, Holy Dating, & a Vocations workshop for men and women

What to Bring/What to Leave at Home:

Attached is What to Bring list, but below are a few key reminders that will make your retreat experience more enjoyable if you bring them!  Be sure all of your personal items are labeled with your name.

·  Sleeping Bag & Pillow, Water Bottle, Bible, Rosary, Comfortable safe shoes for walking in rain, Sweatshirt for night

·  Prescription medication should have it clearly labeled with the teen's name on the outside of a Ziploc bag with the dosage instructions included. This should be turned over to the adult leaders at registration.

·  Cell phones are permitted at the retreat but only to be used for Alarm Clocks. We want to detach from any distractions we may have come our way to focus solely on the message Jesus is speaking to us on Retreat.

Snacks

We ask that each teen bring a snack (cookies, fruit, fruit snacks, chips, etc) to feed 6-10 people. Due to the number of teens with severe nut allergies attending our retreat weekend we ask that no snacks with nuts are brought to the retreat. Should a snack with nuts be brought, we will not be serving it at any point throughout the weekend or have it in our facility due to the severity of some of these allergies. We will be collecting snacks at the registration table at check-in. Teens are not to have snacks in their dorms.

Be sure to leave any valuables, inappropriate clothing (this is a Theology of the Body retreat!), or anything illegal at home (but really you shouldn't have any of this anyways!).  Additional Do Not Bring items are on the supplies list attached.

Weather:

Here's a current 10 day forecast. Where Mission Springs is located within Scotts Valley, the retreat center is often 10-15 degrees cooler than the rest of the area. As such, it is essential that your teens pack warm clothing which are rain appropriate, and shoes intended for these conditions.

Behavioral Expectations:

It is our expectation all teens are behaving in a way that is reflective of our Catholic teachings, and especially the teachings of Theology of the Body, but should there be any behavior that is deemed inappropriate by the Director of the retreat, parents will be notified.  Depending on the severity of the action, or the frequency of the behavior, teens will be sent home.  Parents will be responsible for arranging immediate pick-up of their teen in this case without any refund.

Support Us:

Echoes of Worth would not be possible without our Fee and very generous donations. We are also looking for partners to financially support this retreat as well as future opportunities. A collection will be taken at Mass on Sunday for a 50/50 collection, proceeds benefiting local pro-life organizations.

Cash, Checks, Credit Card and & On-line donations are available. Checks can be made out to "Echoes of Worth" and mailed to our PO Box listed below.

Prayer & Novena for the Retreat

Prayer Sign-ups for the Retreat: Lift us up in prayer and let us know you're praying for us by answering three quick questions.

Youth Ministers:

Thank you for your support of this ministry by encouraging your teens to attend this retreat. It takes a Catholic village to raise a Catholic child. You rock!

Emergency Contact:

There is no cell phone service at the retreat center.

831.335.9133 is the main number to the retreat center.  This number should be used during business hours (8am - 5pm) and we will have access to this if there is any emergency in which we will need to contact you.

Sarah Landers, Operations Coordinator, can be contacted throughout the entire retreat via text message on iDevices, at 408.705.7023, as there is wifi at the retreat center she will be logged in to.  Please note this is a personal cell phone, please do not use for general retreat questions.  This number should only be used for emergencies on-retreat.

Additionally, the [email protected] email will be frequently monitored throughout the entire weekend due to the lack of cell phone service for any need to contact us as well.

Thank you for your support of the Echoes of Worth Retreat.

You're Worth It!
