Parish Newsletter for Sunday 28th February 2021

Dear friends,
I trust that this newsletter finds you well.

Trust is much harder to live than to talk about. For some of us trusting God is easier than trusting people, and the reverse is true for others. In Christian terms, trust is the assurance of God's sovereignty, to such an extent that it leads to bold action. This week, for our lent series we look at, yes you've guessed it, trust!

After our service on Sunday at 2pm we are holding a whole church meeting on Zoom at 3pm (click here to join). In our meeting the church community will hear about the road ahead. We will hear about the vision for the church, the plan for this new chapter and further detail on the three areas of our church life - i. the established church, ii, the Lifehouse, iii. Transforming Mission. This will be the first time since 2019 that we've held a meeting of this importance and scope. The leadership of the church would really like to see you there.

In Debbie's sermon on Sunday you'll hear about how trust is also about transformation. I encourage you to take note of the call to trust God at this time, and the invitation to embark on this new journey whilst trusting one another. The leadership of the church believe we are in a state of transformation for the better, and therefore, in many ways the church will feel different, and quite rightly so since the world is now different, and we are different. But we know that by the Spirit- God has already prepared us to take this new road. The faith and character of All Saints remains, our focus on the Eucharist and the Word remains, our love for community and justice remains. Join us tomorrow, and if you choose to take this journey with us, you will find yourself with friends, you'll find yourself with what is familiar as well as what is new, but most of all you will be the Church. This is a time when your church needs you, the world needs Jesus, and we are his followers.

Yours in Jesus
Rev Jeremy

TRANSFORMING MISSION: NEW APPOINTMENT

As part of the Transforming Mission project, All Saints Highertown has recently appointed a new Worship Leader--Robin Mitchell. Robin will be part time and help Anna lead and develop the worship ministry at All Saints. He officially starts in an online capacity on 15 March and will be moving down with his wife from Bristol during the Spring. Robin will be fully introduced and welcomed to the church community in late March.

ANSWERED PRAYER

We thank God for the gift of £1200 this week which has enabled Jeremy to buy two Apple iPads to donate to the Kerensa Ward at RCH Treliske. These iPads will enable families to communicate with loved ones who are in hospital and would otherwise have no contact due to current lockdown restrictions.

INTIMACY WITH GOD

Last week in our Lent Foundations series, we looked at intimacy with God, pondering the following scripture and questions:

“Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sickness. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” – Luke 5: 15-16

How do you find intimacy with God? What scripture helps you draw closer to God?

Can you recall a time when you felt the intimacy and presence of God? Where were you? Why do you think you felt that way?

Sacred Rest - Part 1 Physical Rest

“Dr Daulton Smith identifies two types of physical rest, Passive Rest and Active Rest. Passive Rest is sleeping. We all know it is a necessity but we don’t always set ourselves up for success. The book suggests that the key to a good night’s sleep is a well-rested life.”

https://www.asht.org.uk/sacred-rest.html

Part 1 looks at Physical Rest and the need to take time each day to stop and notice how your body feels. Check out part 1 in our series on Sacred Rest and let us know what you do to stay rested. Is it easy, does it come naturally? Or are you someone who has to plan in rest?

We can confirm that we have successfully appointed someone to this new exciting role for the church and we'll be sharing further news on who this is and when they will be starting at the whole church meeting on the 28th at 3pm.

In the meantime please continue to pray for the appointment of our new Pioneer Minister role, this is the last appointment to be made to the team. The advert goes out this week. And the detail can be found here - https://www.asht.org.uk/transforming-mission.html
