Stress Awareness Month
April is Stress Awareness Month, and it is important for us all to be aware of and recognize the different signs of stress.
Being aware of the signs of stress in yourself and the residents who live in the home will help you to quickly and effectively recognize and relieve the issues that may arise from too much stress. Managing stress can also help you to be more successful and help with mental health.
Here some some suggestions to relieve stress:
-
Get active: Almost all forms of physical activity can help to relieve stress
-
Create community: Spending time together also relieves stress
-
Eat healthy: Healthful and fresh foods can reduce stress
-
Laugh more: Laughter is good medicine
-
Meditate or do yoga: Controlled breathing and concentration help to reduce stress
-
Get proper sleep: Have a routine that supports your ability to fall asleep and get proper rest
Another stress reliever I personally use is to work in my yard and garden. April is also National Garden Month and now the the temperature is warming up, so this is the perfect time to plant seeds or purchase plant starts from a local nursery to grow your own fruits and vegetables.
You can start small and grow indoors in containers, or have a space in your yard for a garden or raised beds. This is a great way not only to reduce stress, but it can also be a great activity to do with residents. There are plenty of ways to plant and grow a garden. Not only is it a great way to help reduce stress, but it can also be fun and enjoyable while providing fresh and healthy vegetables for everyone!
