From Our President

Josh Hagley

Hello once again to one of best looking and sophisticated memberships around. I would first like to start off this newsletter by wishing you all a Happy Labor Day Weekend! I hope you enjoy yourselves to the fullest as we wind down our summer. As we step into fall make sure you take full advantage of your golfing privileges at JCC. Fall golf in Southern Idaho is pretty hard to beat.

August was an eventful month on the golf course. Due to a 4 minute wind gust the course lost several trees that had to be removed and sod was placed over where they stood. It was unfortunate to lose those mature trees but the greens crew did a wonderful job getting the course back in shape. We are still dealing with some of the water damage on 8 fairway which was a result of the same storm.

As most of you have noticed the fairway bunker on #11 was removed. I have not heard very many complaints about it going away. I would like to address why it was removed, however. In most course design you want to limit “double jeopardy” as much as possible. That bunker coupled with the trouble the trees present as much double jeopardy as I think any reasonable golfer would want. The removal of the bunker was planned for some time.

The new chairs have been in the club for over a month and I think they look great. We are dealing with a few issues like scratches on the walls and some the chairs but those issues are being addressed.

The improvement committee is considering installing some large sun shades on our back patio. We have priced the shades and are pursuing a contractor that could install them. If anyone is interested on bidding installation job, please feel free to contact me. I would like to take this opportunity to that everyone on the improvement committee and the members that support our annual fundraising event. Because of the event’s success we are able to do improvement projects like this outside of the clubs normal capital improvement budget.

Towards the end of September we will be striping and sealcoating the parking lot. The winter was extremely harsh on the parking lot as I am sure you have noticed. We will be adding additional base to the parking lot making it more durable for years to come. Please be patient as parking may be limited during the process.

It has come to my attention that some of the members are not receiving the newsletter. This may be because the email is filtering to a junk folder. If it is not a junk mail folder members can sign up for the newsletter at http://www.jeromecountryclub.com/newsletter.html. Please pass this information onto anyone that has mentioned not receiving the it. I would hate for anyone to miss out. The updated rules and regulations have also been updated on the website. You can find them on the Pro Shop page under the Course Rules link.

That is all that I have for this month. I hope to see you all at the club soon.

It has been a busy summer here in the golfshop. Jerome CC hosts a variety of golf tournaments and events. The August heat created a challenge for both the players and the maintenance crew. As usual golf course superintendent Bart Brandell and the Maintenance Staff have kept the golf course in great condition through this very hot season.

The Club Championship was contested over August 12 th and 13 th. 104 Members competed in the Championship. Congratulations to our 2017 JCC Club Champions, Colt Jones and Babe Hansen. Babe Backed up her Senior Club Championship win earlier this season, posting 86-79 for her winning 165 Total. Mens Honors go to Colt Jones. Colt won the title firing 70 Saturday and 69 on Sunday for a two day total of 139. Overall Net Honors were taken by Logan Briggs and Lauralee Ericson respectively.

The Couples Invitational Committee hosted a great tournament with 124 participants. The golf course was beautiful, Kimberly Road provided the Entertainment and the food was excellent. Needless to say, fun was had by all. Congratulations to Jack and Jennifer Kulm and their guests Gary and Tamara Yost for claiming the overall tournament title.

Great work and Thank You to the Couples Invitational Committee for a Fun Event.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 21 st Annual Jerome CC Money for MSTI Womens Two Person Best Ball. The annual Event Raises Funds to Support the Mountain States Tumor Institute. The two player teams are either Two Members or a Member and a guest. Kathy Hanchett and the Tournament committee presented the funds raised by the tournament to MSTI. Great Job JCC Ladies.

The JCC Chapman Group will finish another great season with the Chapman Championship on September 2 nd and 3 rd. A Huge Thank You to the Chairmen Steve and Kay Feldtman and the Committee for an excellent season.

Tournament Players must spend the golfshop credit won in Tournaments by Nov. 15, 2017. The shop is still fully stocked and credit may also be used for special orders. Keep in mind that the golfshop will be closed most of December and January.

There are still some great playing opportunities on the schedule. The Womens “Eclectic” Invitational will be September 5 nd and 6 th. The Michelob Two person Best Ball September 16 th and 17 th will play at Jerome CC / Twin Falls GC / and Canyon Springs GC. Teams will play on two of the three golf courses. Entries are being accepted at Canyon Springs with a 120 team maximum field.

The annual JCC Golf Under the Stars night golf tournament is scheduled for September 22 nd. Watch for details in the golfshop.
