Good reads on skin-care with an offer at the end.

Stay tuned, next bulletin will be on PRP procedures!

Hello

Did you know your skin is the LARGEST organ and the first defense line against all sickness, illness, and disease? Like all organs, your skin can become damaged.  Many people typically only think of their skin as it relates to beauty — but our skin’s health is essential to our overall health. After all, it serves as the interface with the outside world.

Skin microbiomes and skin health.
Our skin is our frontline of defense against injury or potential pathogens, and our skin microbiome is the cavalry protecting the frontline. Some of these species even reside in your gut flora. Also, depending on if you are older or younger, and depending on your gender, certain microbiome species may prefer to live on your skin. For example, a sweaty adolescent male versus an older postmenopausal female will have very different microbiomes.

Besides the obvious health implications, body microbiome health matters. This is because a healthy and balanced microbiome will directly impact how your skin looks. Simply put, “as we age, toxins, stress, infections, poor dietary choices, and certain medications can negatively affect the gut microbiome.”

Microbes influence the immune system, and not only exist on the skin’s surface but also deep into the dermal layers. It was discovered that these microbes could move into the dermis and into subcutaneous fat. Meaning, the skin microbiome can influence and impact our immune system through contact in these dermal layers. Depending on your good microbes’ health, it will affect (negatively or positively) your immune system’s response to pathogens.

Healthy good skin microbiomes and gut microbiomes can protect you against infection. This is because when good microbes flourish, they can crowd out the pathogenic (bad) species. Prebiotics are one way to promote the growth and activity of beneficial microbes.

Another way to protect against infection is by balancing the skin’s pH. Our skin prefers a relatively acidic environment – a pH around 5.0. This slightly acidic environment provides the perfect environment to inhibit pathogenic (harmful) species. Using skin care products like Image Skin Care that offers an ideal pH balance can help fortify a healthy microbiome to protect against infections and skin breakouts.

Another big concern for your skin health: Parabens

The biggest cause of skin aging could be a toxic hormone-disrupting poison found in everything from face moisturizers to body wash. Skincare’s biggest bad guy is a toxic chemical called Paraben…

Parabens have been around since 1923 and are in nearly 85 percent of cosmetic products! They’re used as preservatives that allow makeup, skin creams, skin serums, skin cleansers, and other products to survive for months, even years, in our bathroom cabinet.

Parabens can easily enter your cells through your skin and accumulate in your muscle and fat tissue.  Because your skin soaks up everything you rub on it!  A British study found traces of five parabens in the breast tissue collected from 40 mastectomies for primary breast cancer in England between 2005 and 2008. Now, the study didn't prove that parabens can cause cancer… but it identified that the parabens were able to penetrate the skin and remain within fat tissue.

In 2017, the U.N. Environment Programme officially identified parabens as an “endocrine disruptor". Parabens are xenoestrogens – which block hormonal signaling and are believed to disrupt hormone function by mimicking estrogen. Too much estrogen can trigger an increase in breast cell division and the growth of tumors, which is why paraben use has been linked to breast cancer and reproductive issues.

Scientists even discovered that parabens are linked to allergic skin reactions… They are inflammatory to psoriasis, eczema, or contact dermatitis. Since parabens are one of the most common ingredients in skincare product… It's no surprise they are found in 90% of grocery store items in the US...

You could be putting your delicate skin in dangerous contact with this deadly chemical…parabens damage your skin’s bio-shield. Your bio-shield is an invisible film on your skin's surface that's designed as a "moisture barrier" to protect it from the elements. Destroying your skin’s bio-shield can cause: flaky skin, wrinkles, saggy skin, rough, uneven texture, blemishes
