February 2019 | Volume 20 | Issue 38

From Our President

Pete Cantor

Another month has past.  Time is going so fast. Hopefully the board can accomplish all the plans they have for the year.  We, the board, are working on how to establish a single membership.  We have come up with some ideas but we need your help.  If anyone has an interest please give us your input.  Keep in mind we need to do all we can to not have a negative financial impact on the country club.

I was out on the course today and noticed a lot of members playing.  Its great to enjoy all we can in the spring like weather.  Please keep in mind that we use the rules and policies in the winter as we do in the summer. Carts are harder on the course in the winter. Please keep carts on cart paths when possible and be respectful to home owners property.

The greens crew has been hard at work this winter sharping blades and taking care of the equipment.  Maintenance is time consuming and necessary.

You might notice that the big dead poplar tree by number 2 green is gone. It was expensive to cut down but would have caused damage if it had fallen down on its own.

We hope to open the additional practice area in June thanks to the course improvement donated money.

In Preparation for the 2019 Season please keep a few things in mind:

March 1st is the beginning of the score posting season for handicaps on golf courses in the Idaho Golf Association. Be sure to send in your Mens and Womens Association forms and payments (Included in the Jerome CC Statements of annual dues) . Jerome Country Club Members USGA Handicap Accounts will not be deactivated Feb. 1 as in the past, However if a player does not renew handicap accounts in the spring the USGA will deactivate them in late Spring. This Change is meant to improve service to members and not deactivate handicaps in the winter when the golf course is not playable. Also please note: that Mens and Womens Association fees are to be paid separate from Country Club Dues and directly to the Mens or Womens Associations at PO Box 452.

The Limited Reciprocal agreement with Clear Lakes Country Club has been a great benefit to both JCC and CLCC Members . We are currently working out the 2019 Agreement. Watch in future newsletters for the details and dates of Reciprocal rounds with Clear Lake.

Thanks to the efforts of the golf committee, the tournament schedule is in place. It is very similar to recent years and will be updated when necessary on the club website. The entire schedule is posted at jeromecountryclub.com.

The new Online method of Scheduling Tee Times is Available to members at the Club Website jeromecountryclub.com. Simply Click on the Book Tee Time Button and choose a Date and Time that is available.

We will use reservations for tee times beginning February 15th . It is our intent to accommodate as many members as possible with tee times. Members are able to make reservations 7 days in advance, others are allowed to reserve times 3 days in advance. Please provide us with the number of players in your group (and names when possible). This will allow us to pair and fill out as many groups into foursomes as possible.

JCC Member Randall Cross is organizing an Golf Trip To Ireland. The Trip Sounds like a very good deal and includes 8 to 10 Rounds of Golf on very high quality Irish Courses. The Details can be seen at Www.irishdreamgolf2019.com and Randall may be reached at (818) 640-5038 or [email protected].

Winter can be very destructive to the golf course turf. When the course does begin to thaw, please Keep in mind the care and protection of our precious “green” grass. During these wintery rounds, please take particular care when you play as the turf begins to thaw. Try to avoid the wet or soft areas with golf carts, and repair ball marks and divots whenever it is possible.
