Piero and I were very excited and honored to be included in The HEAT Group/Florida Blue Health & Wellness Fair this week.  It is one thing to read in the papers about how Pat Riley and the Arison family have created the "Miami Heat Culture" that has created one of the best organizations across the NBA, but another to meet these highly impressive employees.  They were very interested in mindfulness, and several already have an established meditation practice!  Hopefully, we will get to work with them again in the future!

Our All-Day Silent Retreat 7/22/18

We had a wonderful silent retreat a couple of weeks ago at the Fort Lauderdale Women's Club.  The weather was perfect, including the sun shower that occurred right on cue as I read the poem, "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver.  Many, many insightful moments were attained by our summer cycle of MBSR participants.  Thanks for coming out and being with us!

New 8-week class in

Mindful

Self-Compassion

Mindful Self-Compassion is an 8-Week holistic wellness program that combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance emotional resilience. Participants learn to turn toward and acknowledge difficult thoughts and feelings (such as inadequacy, sadness, anger, confusion) with mindfulness and respond with kindness rather than self-criticism. Research has shown that self-compassion enhances emotional wellbeing.

This course is based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer. MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to open to the present moment, feel connected to self and others and respond with compassion.

Participants benefit by exploring the latest research in self-compassion and mindfulness, by discovering how these practices can be integrated under the umbrella of self-compassion training, and by learning skills that they can practice themselves for personal wellbeing.  There are now over 1200 articles in peer-reviewed journals that show the efficacy of these practices in mental health.

I am currently a Teacher in Training through the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.  I will provide a free orientation session on Wednesday evening, September 12, from 6:00 to 8:30 at Boca Raton Physical Therapy.  Classes begin two weeks later.  A great program for MBSR graduates who want to deepen their practice, as well as for novices to mindfulness!  Also, up to 27.5 continuing education credits for nurses, psychologists, LMFTs, LCSWs, and LMHCs through International Seminars Group (ISG).

The University of Miami’s Mindfulness Research and Practice Initiative (UMindfulness) is hosting Kristin Neff and Chris Germer in their rare South Florida appearance!

Research demonstrates that self-compassion is significantly linked to increased happiness, vitality, motivation and optimism and decreased anxiety, depression and stress. Even more promising, self-compassion has been demonstrated to be a mutable trait–cultivated through the practice of guided meditations and daily informal exercises and meditations. Participants of this two-day workshop will learn the core skills of the 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) training, an empirically-supported program designed to cultivate self-compassion using meditation, daily life practices, lecture, group exercises and discussion. Self-compassion is an emotional skill that can be learned by anyone. You will be provided with essential tools for treating yourself in a kind, compassionate way whenever you suffer, fail, or feel inadequate. These practices can be instrumental to mental health practitioners both for their own self-care as well as helping clients. This workshop is relevant for the general public as well as practicing mental health professionals

International Seminars Group (ISG) will also be providing 12 Continuing Education credits for nurses, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMHCs and psychologists.  Please take advantage of this rare opportunity to meet with the creators of the 8-week program in Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)!
