Parish Newsletter for Sunday 11th April 2021

Dear All,

Religious and Political Leaders across the world are paying tribute to the extraordinary life of His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, after Buckingham Palace announced his death at the age of 99.

Prime Ministers, Presidents, Royalty and Politicians from all over are offering their condolences. The Archbishop Justin Welby praised Prince Philip's "unfailing support" for the Queen, and mentioned his "outstanding example of Christian service". Our Bishop, Rt Revd Philip Mountstephen said, "there were numerous causes that he championed and made his own and which benefitted greatly from his initiative, drive and energy. In his support of Her Majesty we owe him a significant debt of gratitude, and we thank God for him.”

It is therefore our privilege as the Parish Church for Highertown and Baldhu to hold a Parish Communion service (in person) this coming Sunday morning at 10.30am in honour of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Philip was patron to hundreds of charitable organisations, covering a wide range of disciplines all of which benefited from his wit and wisdom and his faith in Jesus Christ.

Do join me in praying for members of the Royal Family as they mourn and may God bring them comfort. As we give thanks to God for a life lived to the full, may Prince Philip rest in peace and rise in glory.

Yours in Jesus
Revd Jeremy Putnam

God of our lives,
we give thanks for the life of Prince Philip,
for his love of our country,
and for his devotion to duty.
We entrust him now to your love and mercy,
through our Redeemer Jesus Christ. Amen.

PARISH COMMUNION 10.30AM SUNDAY 11th APRIL

IN PERSON SERVICES GOING FORWARD

I am pleased to say that we have now officially returned to in person services until further notice. Every Sunday there will be a service held at 10.30am. For the time being the pattern of services will be a Parish Communion on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month, with a non-Communion on the 1st and 3rd Sunday. Attendance at these services are still limited due to the necessary social distancing. Please use the link above to let us know you'll be coming. Please let me reassure you that we hold to very stringent safety guidance provided by the Government in discussion with the Church of England.

SINGING RETURNS!

Currently singing is still not permitted indoors. However, last week the Government issued guidance to churches for singing outdoors. Over the coming weeks the ministry team will consider how we might make best use of this permission bearing in mind the space we have in the gardens and the safety precautions needed. Watch this space!

ONLINE SERVICES

Although there isn't an online service this coming Sunday we will be returning soon with a new online service at a new time. The ministry team recognise that as the weather improves Sunday's at 2pm is probably not the best time for an online service. Yet we know that for many connecting with church online is the preferred method. It is expected that by the end of April a new online service will be launched, with the hope of moving this to an in person later in the year. We are really hoping for your support as we relaunch this act of worship, with a view to growing the church and extending its reach with the gospel. More new of the launch date will be with you in the next newsletter.

Remembering His Royal Highness Prince Philip

JEREMY AND RUTH'S SABBATICAL

Please pray for Ruth, Jeremy and their daughters as they prepare for their sabbatical. Jeremy will be stepping back from ministry on 18th April and returning to parish duties on Sunday 15th August.

APCM postponed until 16th May at 3pm

Due to a number of factors we have had to delay our APCM until the 16th May. I apologies for any confusion this may cause but I can confidently say we will have everything together for the new published date. The APCM will be held on Zoom and the details for attending will be publihed later.

PRAYER REQUESTS

We pray for the Pioneer Minister Vacancy.

We pray for the vaccination programme.

We pray for the Lifehouse project funding, and the tendering process which is currently underway.

We pray for Richard, who was in an awful car crash and is in a critical condition in a London hospital. Richard is the son of a couple who live in the parish, and they have asked the church to hold him in our prayers.

We pray for Ruth, Jeremy and their daughters as they step back for a period of rest, prayer and reflection.
