Theatre Fun!

We were so proud of our students in our younger elementary group, who created sets, costumes and acted in our amazing Series of Mini Fairytales at the end of May.

Pictured: First Graders Ever & Nova playing Cinderella's step-sisters.

We all had so much fun, and it was heartwarming to welcome so many families and community members to see the show and celebrate their hard work. Our upper elementary students' Living Literature performance of Firebird will be Thursday, June 9th, at 6:30 pm at our Dupont St location. Our kids and teachers are working so hard to get ready for this fantastic show. Hope to see you there!

We can't believe the school year is almost over! In preschool we are exploring our young artists' imagination and pushing the boundaries of what they can create! It's amazing how far they've come and all that they've learned this year. We're going to miss our friends who are going on to pre-k or elsewhere next year, but the time we've had together has been magical!

Pre-K/Kindergarten

Our pre-k and kindergarten friends are working hard to get ready for their big transition to kindergarten, first grade or beyond! We can't believe how fast this year flew by.

This project comes out of our unit on forest ecology. In addition to learning about forest ecology, we also studied how artists use flowers and nature in their artwork. Since nature decays, it needs to be preserved in order for it to be viewed beyond the lifespan of a flower or leaf, which is typically a matter of days or weeks. We discovered how many artists use flowers as inspiration, and one artist, Azume Mokoto, even sent flowers to space and photographed them.

We extracted ink and colors from flowers. Then we arranged flowers and photographed them, and finally we froze flowers and used time lapse photography to watch the melting process. Along with that we layered our poetry unit into this. First we wrote a few haikus, and then what ended up in this final piece is a diamante style poem about destruction and creation. The last piece of this video art was the inclusion of the music soundtrack that was created by a student on our baby grand piano in our music studio.
