Ten Kinds of Magic

I want to show you ten kinds of magic I have found that you can share with children. But first of all, I want to explain why I identified them in the first place.

I experienced many of these magical moments in childhood, and ever since then, I have longed for those moments again and sought to duplicate them for others in my stories, activities, and art. However, it's tricky because it is not always clear what caused them to begin with, and then replicating them is a challenge all on its own.

Identifying them is part of my effort to make that happen in my work, and I hope you can take something from it and apply it to your work or the way you interact with children.

Without further ado, Ten Kinds of Magic:

  1. A Blank Sheet of Paper. Something magical happens when you replace typical lined paper with a blank page. It's as if the very act of doing so fills the paper with possibility. The lines disappear and leave us a space we can supply with our thoughts, dreams, and stories.
  2. An Idea. An idea is like a seed that can grow into something much bigger and better. It's the beginning of something new, and it has the potential to change the world. The feeling that accompanies a new idea is intoxicating.
  3. A New Day. Every morning brings with it the opportunity for a new beginning. It feels like a birth. Today is a chance to start fresh, no matter what happened yesterday. All it takes is the decision to do so.
  4. A Clean House. When your space is clean, worries and stress disappear the moment you step into it. Suddenly everything feels right in the world. It amazes me how many people underestimate the wealth of cleanliness.
  5. A Good Book. There is nothing quite like getting lost in a good book. It's like being transported to another world where anything is possible. I have a few "comfort" books that I keep around just for those moments when I want to find peace for a while.
  6. A Warm hug. Sometimes all you need is a warm hug from someone you love. It's like all the love and warmth in the world is being poured into you. It's a feeling that can make even the darkest days seem brighter.
  7. An act of kindness. Whether it's a simple act of kindness or something more, it's a moment that you will both remember for a long time.
  8. A moment of silence. There is something magical about taking a moment to stop and be still in a world that is constantly moving and filled with noise. It's a chance to clear your mind and recenter yourself. And in that silence, you can find peace.
  9. A moment of awe. There are moments in life when something grand and beautiful greets us, and we can't help but fill with awe. It's a wonder and amazement that stays with us long after the moment has passed.
  10. A goal accomplished. There is no feeling quite like the feeling of accomplishment. It's a sense of pride and satisfaction from knowing that you've worked hard and achieved something remarkable. And it's a moment that you will never forget.

These are just a few of the many magical moments we experience. Do you have any magical moments from childhood that you remember? I was hoping you could share them with me through my email address. I may share your ideas in my next newsletter.
