Turkey Trot Artwork Contest

The Ormondale Turkey Trot (1K and 5K run/walk/relay plus a Tiny Tots Race) will be held on Saturday November 3rd from 8:00am -11:00am. Kids love this event! Parents and siblings can run too. The Turkey Trot is a family event for our community that promotes health and introduces children to athletics in a friendly spirit.

This year, four students (one from each grade K-3) will have their artwork featured in color on Turkey Trot posters, which will be placed around the school to promote the event. Winning artists (one winner per grade) will also receive a $25 gift certificate to Keplers Books. Students will be bringing home a form for the Turkey Trot Artwork Contest in the homework folders. Please submit artwork to the Turkey Trot box in the Ormondale school office by Friday October 19th.

THE SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR THANK-YOU

Did you see the fairy?! A special Enchanted Fairy flew in and treated us to a story! One of the many treats we had all week. Our Book Fair was a huge success once again due to the work of our volunteers and all the families who made purchases from the vast selection of books sent to our school by Scholastic. All profits go directly to both school libraries for new book purchases.

We Give a Cheer to our Volunteers!

What a great group of volunteers we had again this year. Our book fair wouldn’t of been a huge success without Ms Suzy and our Book Fair Co-Chairs: Heather Cunningham, Kimberly Rosen and Angie Stern.

They had a whole crew behind them and we thank each and every one of them for all their help setting up, helping kids browse books, running cash registers and taking down the book fair. Our wonderful Book Fair Helpers: Alana Achterkirchen, Kit Antovich, Nora Barendsen, Aimee Blum, Berfu Butler, Kristen Cheng, Camilla Eckstein, Caroline Diarte Edwards, Julie Harding, Erica Johnston, Kiran Kamboj, Marta Kandler, Renae Killen, Sarah King, Camilla Lynch, Jessie McEvoy, Cori Moesta, Ginger Oros and Lorilee Sugden.

A big thank you to Greg & Angie Stern (Connor and Wyatt's parents) and their staff at the Dutch Goose for providing lunch to our Ormondale staff during the teacher preview. What a special treat for them!

And, what better way to end the Book Fair week than with a Bagel N Books Breakfast?! Huge Thanks to Nelly Wolfson, Kiran Kamboj &  Dale Kane and the 1st grade parents who volunteered to put on a fabulous event for the entire community. Olga Amuzinskaya, Berfu Butler, Mariela Cruz, Sara Donahue, Julie Harding, Meghan Imrie, Linda Kamran, Renae Killen, Jessica Leino, Laura Mather, Laura Mather, Ginger Oros, Anne Van Der Staay, Melenaite Villasenor, Michelle Walker and Teri Wolf. The Breakfast was wildly popular and was a great way to end the Book Fair.

Until Next Year!

Vote YES on Z for Ormondale and Corte Madera!

This November, we have the opportunity to vote YES on Measure Z to upgrade and renovate Ormondale and Corte Madera schools.  As you may know, some of our classrooms and school facilities, 30 to 60 years ago, need extensive repairs and updates. These immediate needs are straining school budgets.

Measure Z on the November ballot will upgrade our PVSD schools — all funds will stay in our community.

Measure Z will:

  • Replace classrooms for science, technology and art instruction at both schools,
  • Replace leaking roofs, plumbing and electrical systems,
  • Upgrade outdated facilities, classrooms and security systems to improve school security and meet current safety codes, and
  • Update educational facilities to keep pace with 21st century teaching and learning.

IS YOUR CHILD INTERESTED IN LEARNING FRENCH?

EFBA (Education Française Bay Area), a nonprofit organization promoting bilingualism, is opening a new location at Woodland School in Ladera (360 La Cuesta Dr, Portola Valley) starting this fall.   Classes are offered based on age and language level (native and non-native), and are held 2x per week for 1.5 hours each class session throughout the school year.
EFBA is a unique French school for children ages from 5 to 14.

Since French is a minority language in the Bay Area, they have created several programs aiming to offer sufficient exposure to the language to help children become bilingual effortlessly and willingly.  They offer 3 interdependent programs throughout the year.

You can find more details about EFBA’s after school program here. If you have any questions about the program, please contact me or the local coordinator, Gabrielle Durana, at [email protected].
