How to Approach Kids Activities for Maximum Engagement: Coloring Outside the Lines

Kids have a fantastic way of living in the moment. They approach each activity with enthusiasm and without preconceived notions of how things “should” be done. Unfortunately, as adults, we often lose this sense of wonder and abandon our creativity. We let the rules constrain us. But what if we let go of the rules for a little while? What if we allowed kids to approach activities their way – without boundaries or limitations? In this newsletter, we will discuss how to enable kids to color outside the lines and create activities for themselves – resulting in maximum engagement and enjoyment!

So, how can we allow kids to color outside the lines? How can we let them be themselves and approach activities their way? Here are a few tips:

  • Encourage creativity: Encourage kids to be creative and develop their ideas. Don’t tell them how they should do things – let them figure it out for themselves! While I think it is terrific when parents sit down with kids and provide them with mentorship, it is also great to let them go. Sit with them, be there for them, listen to them, and congratulate them.
  • Don’t confine them to the rules: Unless they express a willingness for a greater challenge, don’t confine kids to set boundaries. Instead, let them color outside the lines! Let them approach a maze from their own starting point or discover their own ending point.
  • Finally, let them create their own activity: If you’re unsure what to do, let the kids decide! They’ll come up with something fun and engaging – guaranteed! Put the tools down in front of them, give them options, and they will take it from there. There is nothing wrong with giving them a blank page.

By following these tips, you can allow kids to be themselves and approach activities in their own way, which will result in maximum engagement and enjoyment! So go ahead – encourage creativity, don’t confine them to the rules, and let them create their own activity! Your kids will thank you for it!
