donate your paper towel rolls and toilet paper rools to science!

Miss Sarrie is preparing the students to participate in the Fluor Cricket Engineering Challenge. Students will build a device to knock an eraser off a pencil cricket wicket.  The challenge is to see how many times you can knock the eraser off in three minutes.  Miss Sarrie has most of the materials she needs for this challenge but she could use your help with donations of paper towel and toilet paper rolls.  So, instead of recycling or throwing them away when you are done, you can drop them off to school.  She will have a box in the office for all donations.

PVSD FOUNDATION NEWS

garden thyme expansion

The 2nd grade garden program has been such a success - and so popular among students and parents alike - that the District has decided to expand it to all grades at Ormondale by creating garden beds across that entire campus.

With money raised during the Portola Valley Schools Foundation fundraiser last spring, organizer Brook Coffee has kindergarteners through 3rd graders planting edible landscaping from the TK classrooms on one side of the school to the music room on the other. There are pomegranate trees, purple sprouting broccoli, kale, fava beans, beets, turnips, carrots and more. There even are violas in the school colors of blue and white, and nasturtiums in honor of beloved Spanish teacher Señora Covotta.

In addition, the 3rd graders planted a pollinator garden and the kids are putting garlic everywhere they can to keep the squirrels away from their mouth-watering harvest. The snap pea garden is growing so fast, in fact, that Coffee is planning a contest at the end of the year to see which has grown taller: her students or the plants.

Says Coffee, “They’re constantly making green tacos out of fava bean leaves, mizuna and edible flowers. I mean, what kid even knows what mizuna is, and now it’s their favorite food!”

Vote YES! on P to Protect Portola Valley Schools

We value our high-quality teachers who provide an excellent education to Ormondale and Corte Madera students. By voting YES on Measure P, we can renew expiring funding that today funds 17% of our teachers.  Without this funding, our schools face significant cuts. All Measure P funds stay local to fund ORM and CMS staff.
