August 31, 2018 Mindful News My journey on becoming an MSC Teacher After taking the 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion class last year, I became motivated to get the training I needed to teach the class myself, through the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion . I attended a week-long training this summer in Canada, and here is a picture of me and my roommate. I never knew that Mindful Self-Compassion was so popular in China! I really admired her dedication to learn, especially with English not being her primary language! There, at the Ecology Retreat Center in Mono, Canada, we learned the specifics of teaching the 8-week class. One of the greatest things I learned there was the phenomena of "backdraft"; that experience of discomfort a person could feel when providing compassion to oneself. I remember feeling it myself when I took the class last year; that feeling of unease with the simple act of putting my hand over my heart. Thinking to myself, "this is so stupid!" It was a comfort to learn that this unpleasant sensation is actually "a thing"! I hope to lead others through the resistance of backdraft in my upcoming class.
