A Tibetan Buddhist Centre in the Sakya Tradition

Issue 52 May 2020

Dear Dharma friends,
Khenpo-la spoke so beautifully once more in this Sunday’s Shamatha Practice (Peaceful Abiding), that every day could be Mother’s Day in the dharma, for every single sentient being has been our precious Mother at one time or another – again and again, If we can continually practise Peaceful Abiding each and every day, this not only helps all animate and inanimate beings it can only make oneself a better person. We wish you a very Happy Saga Dawa month and may we all treat every single being with pure equanimity.
Please enjoy this issue of The Wisdom Age.
Yours in the dharma

Lojong is a mind training practice in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition based on a set of truths or principles. It originated from the great Bengali meditation master Atiśa (982–1054 CE). The current form of Seven Point Mind Training was composed in Tibet in the 12th century by Geshe Chekawa Yeshe Dorje (1102-1176),
a prolific Kadampa Buddhist meditation master. These teachings reveal how one can transform adverse conditions into the path to enlightenment, principally by developing our compassion. Before Chekawa Yeshe Dorje's root text, this special set of teachings, originally given by Buddha, were secret teachings only given to faithful disciples.

FROM OUR MASTERS
Picture

“When it comes to the true nature of mind, this isn’t something that we get from a spiritual tradition or religion. It’s not something that we need to seek from a guru or that we need to find by going to a sacred place, but it’s a matter of recognising who we are, whatever that it is. When we see this completely clearly, when who we actually are becomes completely evident and obvious to us, and we recognise it and appreciate it in a completely perfect way, then that I think is what is called recognising the true nature of mind. Then we fully make this a reality for ourselves.”

His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje
