The Power of Public Art

 Hurt, Divide, Heal and Connect.

The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville would like to thank Mayor Curry for his decision to remove American Civil War statues, monuments, and plaques that represent systematic racism and marginalization of African Americans.

As this City's designated local arts agency and official partner for Art in Public Places, we look forward to working together to find ways to mesh our history and future in a manner that is respectful of all our citizens.

The Water Street Garage

"Emergence"

Work on the latest public art piece has begun on the south and west facades of the Water Street Garage. A layered composition of luminous silver lines, colored tendrils, and musical notes - it will encompass iconic musical compositions including James Weldon Johnson and Rosamond Johnson’s poetic “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and Courtney Bryan’s contemporary symphonic piece “Bridges,” paying homage to the rich musical history of nearby LaVilla and the modern-day Jacksonville Symphony, connecting Jacksonville’s past, present and future.

We are very excited about the growing online directory of Northeast Florida artists and organizations. As many are still experiencing economic hardship, we have decided to extend the free Enhanced listing through July 15th. This is a great resource to find and be found, and we want it to be accessible to as many people in the arts industry in our region, as possible.

The newly formed Arts Directory is a searchable database for individual
artists and arts & culture organizations. Professional artists in the five county area are welcome to join the growing list of North Florida creatives.

Basic listing is always free.

We are extending the free enhanced listing through July 15, 2020
