What's New at the eureka instituTe

We Built a Tiny Home!

Picture

Construction Basics Initiative students spent all summer with Steve Holt building a 190 square foot Tiny Home! The home has already been sold and will be towed to the buyer's property in Gig Harbor, WA later this month. Yes, this home was built on wheels! More Tiny Homes are in our future... just imagine a line of  "Eureka Tiny Homes"!! Construction Basic Initiative is helping under served and out of school youth find new life choices through job skills training and job placement with local construction companies. Now that's lifelong learning and leadership!

Partnership with Cornish College of the Arts

Picture

This year Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle is sending their junior and senior students to stay at Eureka Center to design blueprints for future Tiny Homes and a site plan for the Center itself. The new site plan will provide a vision for the best way to utilize our pristine 42 acres at Eureka Center in a way that is beautiful and inviting to the community, sustainably built and stands in alignment with our mission of commitment to lifelong learning and leadership. Intentional community building??? Absolutely!

SPOT Bus Shelter Program

Picture

Thanks to a grant from the Equinox Foundation, we are scheduled to build two SPOT bus shelters which we hope to have done before the end of the year! More bus shelters will be coming this spring and next summer. You can help build the next SPOT bus shelter and a legacy of keeping Sandpoint public transportation free, safe and accessible: purchase a sponsorship brick today and your name will go on the front.

Meet Katie Trelstad!

We are stoked to have Katie join the team as our first full time staff member! After three years of volunteering for NW Yoga Feast, Katie has come on as Assistant Director. She brings a background in education, community leadership and the performance arts. One of the first things she wants to do in her new role is get The Eureka Institute registered with Idaho State Board of Education as a  Proprietary School , which will allow us to serve more students and develop better programming for the Inland Northwest community. Katie also plans to help us get accredited as an Eligible Service Provider with the Department of Labor so that we can develop a diversity of programming and apply for state funding dollars!

Our Last SummerFest was the BIGGEST!

350 participants gathered at Eureka Center for Sandpoint SummerFest with food, music and fun! Thank you Eichardt's Pub Grill and Evans Brothers Coffee Roasters for providing amazing catering. Music artists included GrantFarm, Breadbox, Frost Freeze and Talbott Brothers. Fun for the whole family, SummerFest featured a captivating kids magic show with Star Alexander and energizing dance performance by Sandpoint's own Gypsy Divas. Thanks to the overwhelming community support, $4000 was raised to support The Eureka Institute's Construction Basics Initiative, which provides job skills training and employment opportunities for under served and out of work youth in  Bonner and Boundary Counties . Many thanks to our local residents who choose to come back year after year and continue to support this fundraiser community event. If you  missed  out on SummerFeast, it's not too late to become part of the community. Follow us on Facebook at @TheEurekaInstitute to learn about our other events and donate today to help provide scholarships for Construction Basics Initiative students who could not otherwise afford our job skills training program.
