March 2019 | Volume 20 | Issue 39

From Our President

Pete Cantor

This time of the year there isn’t much to do around the course except make plans.  With the exception of snowbirds, you have probably noticed the snow on the course!  It will melt.  The course will be open as weather permits and you can make tee times.  We expect a lot of new play this year due to the population increase and the construction on the road to Canyon Springs Golf Course.

There is a bright orange stripe painted on the entryway to the club house. We had an incident with a person tripping and falling on the raised section.  We will be making a permanent repair on this.

At our next meeting we are going to try to make a decision on the single membership. We have asked for interested members to add input to this issue.  We have received none.  I don’t understand why. The board was under the impression that there was a lot of interest in creating a solution to single members.

The canal company has been busy removing the sediment from the pond on hole 10.  Then the crew and Lytle excavation will be hauling it to the driving range for future use.  There has also been dirt and cart pavement materials moved from the practice range to the home owners RV storage lot.

Our next board meeting will be on March 12th at 6:30.  You are welcome to attend.

From the Pro

Troy Vitek

The Temperatures are rising and the sun is currently Shining. I am becoming more and more optimistic that the golf course will finally be clear of snow and ready for play as I write this note. This new golf season will bring many exciting and interesting events to the Jerome CC. The golf course is likely to be in great condition and ready for all of us to enjoy. The Caddyshack is preparing excellent food and beverages, and We have a full and exciting schedule of events for the membership to participate in.

If you would like to make tee times, remember that members can make them a full week in advance. Please provide us with the number of players in your group (and names when possible). This will allow us to pair up and fill out as many groups into foursomes as possible.

***Members may also book Tee Times using the website at jeromecountryclub.com and clicking the Blue Book Online Button.

The United States Golf Association has made many changes to the rules of golf effective in 2019. The changes are meant to make the rules easier to understand and easier to apply. I recommend that all golfers visit the USGA website in order to find resources regarding the new rules and changes. We have printed some useful information and have it available in the golfshop. AND The Jerome Country Club will be the site of rules seminars hosted by the Idaho golf association on March 11th. Details of the seminars may be found at the homepage of the Idaho golf association website -theiga.org. There is also a very useful APP that may be downloaded to your smart phone, listing and explaining the new changes to the rules of golf. The USGA website has many additional materials and information on the new Rules of Golf. The new rules of golf is a topic that we will continue to discuss throughout the golf season.

The Jerome High School Golf team will begin practice sessions March 4th. Most week days the Team will occupy the tee times from 4:10 to 4:40 in the afternoon. Go Tigers!

Mens Twilight League Captains may pickup 2019 schedules in the golfshop. Please return the team roster and schedule as soon as possible so that we are able to organize the Season Schedule for the first night of twilight league matches.

Ladies Twilight League will begin in May. Please notify Patty Stumpf of changes to current teams, and any new players who wish to play.

March Madness?

Since the golf season seems to be starting a little slower and later than we would like in the golfshop. We are going to start out with a few Merchandise specials in March. All in Stock golf bags and outerwear are 25% Off, Golf Shirts will be $39.95 thru March, and all golf caps and visors are $19.95.

The New Titleist Pro V1

We will once again be offering a special on Titleist Pro V1 golf balls March 15th thru April 14th. In the Titleist Loyalty Rewarded Program You can purchase 4 dozen ProV1’s (they must be personalized). The member price is $159.95 +tax for 4 dozen (this is the lowest price offered on Pro V1 or Pro V1X Golf Balls). Place your order between March 15th and April 14.

Be sure to pay your mens and womens association dues and handicap dues by either mailing them to the golf shop address or delivering them to the golf shop. The Idaho Golf Association allows scores made on IGA courses to be posted for handicap purposes beginning March 1 if course conditions are within a normal range. Scores made during the winter at a golf course in an area observing an "active season" (Arizona, Southern California, etc.) should be posted.

Please post all eligible scores for handicap purposes.

Greetings from the JCC Women’s Association

Spring is just around the corner and that means it is time to dust off the clubs and come enjoy playing with the JCC Women’s Association. We play on Wednesdays and offer 9 Hole and 18 hole games.

Our first Women’s day is April 3rd. Tee off is at 10:00am. Please be signed in by 9:30 so we can start our monthly meeting at 9:30am.

If you haven’t already done so, send your dues to: JCC Women’s Association C/O Pro Shop at Jerome Country Club.

The new PGA Rules of Golf are now in effect and there are some new rules that are causing some confusion on the course. Don’t let your game be derailed by not knowing the rules. Troy will be going over the new rules with the Women’s Association on May 1st at our meeting. The IGA will also be presenting a rules seminar at JCC on March 11. This is by reservation so you will need to sign up on the IGA website which is: www.theiga.org

Hope to see everyone on the course.
