Ten Ways to Hear Snow

You have to listen very carefully to hear some of the best sounds the world has to offer. Perhaps we don't think too often about these sounds, or perhaps we don't know they exist at all. I am happy I took the plunge and purchased this picture book.

The Low, Low Woods

Hear me out! This is not a book recommendation yet. I recently finished two parts of this graphic novel and the story is not gripping me. But, I discovered a gem from the novel that explained why the story doesn't grip me better than I could explain it.

  • I wrote about my favorite resources, and least favorite, for learning to illustrate. They are solid gold.
  • I found the most beautiful rock covered in colorful lichen. It reminded me that ownership does not make things better, and that your 5 senses don't charge interest for transactions with nature.
  • I found some time to rant about something online. Yes, I do that. I am not proud. I got tired of seeing people lay hate on people who are showing environmental stewardship. Mormons, of all people, should feel spiritually motivated to take care of Mother Earth. Oh great, here I go again.
  • I am going back to painting over pencil sketches. Hopefully this is progression and not regression. So far, the response has been positive. I am hoping that working so closely with my sketches will help me loosen up and give me ideas for exploring the breadth of my storytelling ability.

Thank you for reading! I will leave you with a gem I heard this week as well:

With a newsletter called Cory's Pinecone Mound I am not sure I could have ignored that advice any more completely. But I am on a journey to become a better me, to become more creative and inventive, to gather stories, to learn how to retell them, and to tell new stories. I hope you can take something from this consumption list (or pinecones) and use them to entertain you, educate you, or help you just as they have me.

xx
