We are pleased to announce that Growing Up Boulder, Mayamotion Healing (MMH), and teens will offer a training for teachers, counselors, and community partners on how to use our Healing Toolkit. The Healing Toolkit is a resource co-created by youth, GUB, and MMH to support child and youth social-emotional wellness in response to the Table Mesa Tragedy. Register here for this training, which will take place in-person on 4/19, from 5:30-7:30, at BVSD's Education Center. (Please note that only a few spaces remain!)

Funded by the Community Foundation Boulder County's Boulder County Crisis Fund, the bilingual toolkit offers a variety of healing activities easily used in classrooms or with groups of young people. To access the Toolkit in English and Spanish, visit our "Healing from the Table Mesa Tragedy" webpage.

Child Friendly City Training Session for the City of Boulder

On March 16, Growing Up Boulder presented a 3-hour, interactive workshop to City of Boulder staff to teach them about child friendly cities and engaging young people in city planning. Thirty city staff members from nine city departments learned about UNICEF's Child Friendly City Initiative framework, which Boulder will soon be implementing to create a more sustainable and equitable city for all ages! They also practiced child- and youth-friendly civic engagement methods, which City departments are now utilizing around town. In fact, we invite you attend a child- and adult-friendly engagement offered by the City's Planning Department (and based on our training) at their upcoming 4/17 meeting about Boulder Junction. Download the flyer below for details (or complete their survey here).

Eco-Healing with Youth

Inspiring Emotional Resilience through Wildfire Interpretation and Climate Action

In response to the Marshall Fire, which devastated the greater Boulder community in late December 2021, Growing Up Boulder (GUB) partnered with the City of Boulder, the University of Colorado (CU), and Whittier Elementary School to explore the concept of “eco-healing,” or the ways nature connection can foster emotional resilience for young people living in a wildfire prone community. More than 130 children and youth ages 6-22 participated, offering insights and preferences about the types of nature-based programs, media, and facilities they feel would most support their emotional wellbeing. This input then led to theoretical design interventions around the Marshall Fire site, conceived by students in an undergraduate CU Environmental Design studio. Read our report (click on the button below) for details about this moving project.
