A Tibetan Buddhist Centre in the Sakya Tradition

Issue 49 October 2019

Dear Dharma friends,
There is an initiative from Kamalashila Tibetan Buddhist Centre to offer a free wholesome and hot vegetarian meal for the homeless and those in need. This will begin once a month from a park in Bermagui, starting Wednesday 16 October 5-6pm. If this proves to be successful and there is more of a need, there is an intention to increase the amount of days offered. In time, we may ask for volunteers to cook such a meal and if any members and friends would like to sponsor a meal. We will keep you updated with this wonderful and most generous vision of Khenpo-la’s!
Yours in the dharma

UPCOMING COURSES & EVENTS

Pilgrimage 28 December 2019 – 19 January 2020

Picture

There are spaces left for the upcoming Pilgrimage to India and Nepal with Khenpo Ngawang Dhamchoe, starting in Bodhgaya, India on 28 December 2019 and finishing in Kathmandu, Nepal on 19 January 2020.

The four holy Buddhist sites are at Bodhgaya, where the Buddha attained enlightenment; Lumbini, the Buddha’s birthplace; Sarnath (Varanasi), where the Buddha delivered his first teaching; and Kushinagar, where the Buddha died and attained Parinirvana.

The benefits of the pilgrimage to precious Buddhist sites are immense. Here are some – The creation of a positive connection with the land where the Dharma originated · The removal of negative Karma and other obstacles · To gain inspiration and merits while practising generosity and patience · To form the mental state of mind conducive to practice for greater realisation of  Dharma.

It is said so often with many events, yet this truly is a wonderful once in a lifetime (and once in many lifetimes) opportunity to visit these most holy sites with an accomplished guide such as Khenpo Ngawang Dhamchoe.

NEWS FROM DROGMI BUDDHIST INSTITUTE

Sakya News

The Sakya Gongma Trichen is also the reincarnation of Apham (sometimes spelled Apang) Terton, a Nyingma master. Jetsunma has been recognised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to be the reincarnation of Khandro Tare Lhamo, a female master of tantra, and also the daughter of Apham Terton. Perhaps it is this for this reason that The Sakya Gongma Trichen and Jetsunma have always shared a special bond: a bond that was noticeable from very early on. This beautiful picture taken on the evening of Rinpoche’s 75th birthday, capturing this bond quite clearly.

For me, every moment on Pilgrimage was extraordinary. We were cared for in every way possible and protected for the entire journey by our most precious teacher, Khenpo-la. He was always there, yet we had to have our own experiences and some times witnessing the relentless suffering of others from our own perception and somehow bring this into our lives and practice and understand our own suffering to be able to help others and to continue along the precious Dharma path.

Khenpo-la described this as the Spring Term of TCP – sowing seeds in Australia over the last three years, with the opportunity for those seeds to flourish for students continuing the seven-year program in Kathmandu in 2020.

Khenpo-la arrived in Milton on the South Coast of NSW on a very crisp and chilly Friday evening, yet he was so warmly received by over 30 people at the local CWA Hall. To start off the weekend of teachings at the Manjushri Buddhist Centre, Khenpo-la offered a Public Talk on “How to Welcome Change in our Lives”. Khenpo-la paid respect to the Indigenous people of the land past, present and future, then proceeded to talk of the different aspects of the mind that we all have as in the Anger Mind, the Jealous Mind etc.
