Club News

March 2020 | Volume 20 | Issue 51

From Our President

Pete Cantor

As mentioned in the last newsletter the weather is in control!  It is nice to see we are having good weather.  The course and the driving range are busy again and getting in great shape. Bart is working on an elevated target area on the driving range.  Please remember to help keep the practice area picked up by returning baskets, filling divots and using the available balls on the practice area.

The tournament schedule is on the web site along with the reciprocal days we have planned with Clear Lake Country Club.  When our course has a tournament or is busy we have days planned where you can play at Clear Lake and visa versa.  Troy and Brian Kain have worked out approximately 20 days of reciprocal play.

Financially the Country Club is in good shape.  Yearly dues payments are coming in steadily.  No personal memberships are for sale and there are three people on the want to buy list.  We have 411 members at this time.

Plans are underway for the new restroom on number 5 hole.  Our goal for that addition is to have it completed by the Member Guest Tournament. The removal of the old cart path and new irrigation on hole 14 will be a project for the Fall.

The cost of the new restroom is being funded by the donated improvement funds. As our loved ones pass on, you can donate to the fund to have their names placed on our memorial sun in the foyer.

Welcome to new members:

Here we go. The golf season is officially underway. The golf course is in great condition and ready for all of us to enjoy. The Caddyshack is preparing excellent food and beverages, and we have a full and exciting schedule of events for the membership to participate in.

More and more Jerome CC Members are taking advantage of the ability to reserve tee times online at the Jerome CC website. jeromecountryclub.com
Simply open the website and click on the Blue Book a Tee Time Button.

Keep these things in mind when booking tee times from the website:

  • Only members are able to book tee times online.
  • It is not possible to book tee times online within 24 hours of the desired time. If you would like to schedule a time fewer than 24 hours in advance phone the golfshop.
  • It is helpful to the golfshop staff to receive as much information as possible. Please provide us with the number of players in your group (and names when possible). This will allow us to pair up and fill out as many groups into foursomes as possible.

The United States Golf Association has made some changes to the method of calculating golf handicaps in 2020. The Changes are meant to create a more accurate playing handicap for all golfers and to make a players handicap more accurate when playing different golf courses or different sets of tee markers. The changes have also made the method of calculating golf handicaps consistent throughout the other major golf associations around the world.

In an effort to educate golfers regarding the new World Handicap System, the Idaho Golf Association will conduct two seminars on Thursday March 5th. The first will be from Noon to 2:00 PM at the Blue Lakes Country Club, and the second will be from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at the Twin Falls Golf Club. These Seminars are open to all golfers interested in learning about the new World Golf Handicap System. The seminars are listed on the IGA Website.

The Jerome High School Golf team will begin practice sessions February 24th. Most week days the team will occupy the tee times from 3:50 to 4:20 in the afternoon. The Jerome HS Golf team is made up of many fine young men and women, and coaches Rodrigues and Burke do a great job. Good Luck Tigers.

Mens Twilight League Captains may pickup 2020 schedules in the golfshop. Please return the team roster and schedule as soon as possible so that we are able to organize the season schedule for the first night of twilight league matches.

Ladies Twilight League will begin in May. Please notify Patty Stumpf of changes to current teams, and any new players who wish to play.

The Titleist Pro V1

We will once again be offering a special on Titleist Pro V1 golf balls March 15th thru April 14th. In the Titleist Loyalty Rewarded Program you can purchase 4 dozen ProV1’s (they must be personalized). The member price is $159.95 +tax for 4 dozen (this is the lowest price offered on Pro V1 or Pro V1X Golf Balls). Place your order between March 15th and April 14th.

Be sure to pay your mens and womens association dues and handicap dues by either mailing them to the golf shop address or delivering them to the golf shop. The Idaho Golf Association allows scores made on IGA courses to be posted for handicap purposes beginning March 1st if course conditions are within a normal range. Scores made during the winter at a golf course in an area observing an "active season" (Arizona, Southern California, etc.) should be posted.

Please post all eligible scores for handicap purposes.
