Amazing Swiss Chard

By students in Ms. Grech’s Class

Let’s learn about swiss chard!  This superfood is loaded with calcium, iron, magnesium, vitamins A,B,C,E, & K.  This vegetable is from the cruciferous family and can be purchased year round. Its prime time is from May to August. When purchasing this leafy green look for large, crispy leaves with no holes in them.  It tastes similar to spinach.  It’s especially good for people with diabetes because it helps with blood sugar.  It is also healthy for our bones and our lungs.  Did you know that swiss chard comes in a variety of colors like cream, red, green, yellow, orange, and rainbow?  Here’s a joke for you.  What is Switzerland's favorite vegetable?  Answer: It’s swiss chard!  Below is a delicious recipe that Mrs. Wong’s class prepared and served to the students at Ormondale.  We hope you will try the recipe and make this superfood part of your diet.

PV SCHOOLS FOUNDATION NEWS

donate today to the annual campaign!

If you forgot to donate by Donation day, don't despair!   You can still donate using the button below, or write a check (made out to "Portola Valley Schools Foundation") and drop it off at either the CMS or Ormondale offices.

Thanks to the generous funding of the Annual Campaign every year, the District can provide small class sizes as well as provide excellent supplemental programs like music, physical education, and foreign language instruction. The District can also recruit and retain excellent teachers, hire classroom aids and learning specialists, and offer our students counseling services.

Please consider donating $2000k per student, as this is the average contribution required to reach our goal.  We recognize this amount may not be appropriate for every family.  Some families, on the other hand, donate up to $5K to $10K+ year after year.  Every donation makes a difference and is much appreciated.

Thank you!
