These last few weeks have been the last gasp of winter and the first full breath of spring.

Now that the sun is getting warmer and spring is officially here, here are a few tips to have your home ready for a great spring and even better summer:

  • Check your driveway and walk paths for cracks or tripping hazards. Concrete and other walking surfaces may also need to be cleaned to reduce slipping hazards as well. Decks may need to be swept, cleaned and possibly resealed or stained.
  • If your home has covers over the exterior crawl space vents, now is the time to remove them to let the air under the home circulate. This will help to reduce the moisture that may be under the home.
  • Clean and inspect screens on windows and doors throughout the home. They are required to be in good condition per Rule.
  • Look around the exterior of the home for ants and termites and check for standing water. Now that the weather is warming up, insects may be more active for the next few weeks. Consider hiring a qualified pest control company to check or treat your property.
  • Finally, Check to see if there are any farmers markets in your area that may open soon. Farmers markets tend to have fresher produce that was grown at local farms. Check the Oregon Farmers Market Association website.

By doing just a few of these suggested tips, you may find that you are more prepared for the rest of spring and will be ready for a great summer, and you'll have a safe environment for residents and staff to enjoy.
