Things I found, things I am saving for winter

Hi there!

I found some treasures for you:

Ida, Always by Caron Levis

The Red Book

The Red Book is a sweet wordless picture book about connecting with others over long distances through a red book that allows them to see each other in the pages.

It is particularly interesting because the pace tells the story. It is so slow that you can feel the connection between the children as they look at each other. So beautiful.

"Work expands to fill the time given to it."

  • I absolutely love this stunning article featuring work by Christoph Niemann. Christoph's work is called, "A meditation on the creative process."
  • Every week I like to point out some of the people I admire on social media. This week I want to point out Manelle Oliphant. You can look back at Manelle's "Mermaid Parade" that took place over May.
  • During Pride Month the kid lit world is going to talk a lot about exploring gender identity in children's books. Here is an interview I found with Katherine Locke, who wrote the picture book, What Are Your Words? to teach children about gender pronouns.

“The illustrations in picture books are the first paintings most children see, and because of that, they are incredibly important. What we see and share at that age stays with us for life.” -Anthony Browne

Picture books are sophisticated and cultured art. They are impressive and valuable to children and society at large.

You are an intelligent and powerful creator! If you are not putting your work out there, I encourage you to start today. If you are putting your work out there, often for free, as it happens today, thank you! Thank you for your contributions to the world.
