Hybrid Option for Spring Trimester (April-June)

We are planning to resume Hybrid instruction the week of March 29, meaning that interested students will be able to once again take in-person private lessons at musiConnects' Roslindale studio! All group classes and workshops will remain online-only through the end of the school year. Please discuss the in-person option with your child's private teacher and let them know your preference. In-person lesson schedules will be announced by mid-March.

Performance Time!

Our annual Winter All-Play, Spirit! returns on Thursday, March 18 at 5pm. The Zoom link will be posted on the Family Portal beforehand, and simulcast on YouTube! In addition to the annual playing of Deep River, this year's performance will include highlights from our Harmony Strings curriculum (more below).

Share your progress in the pre-recorded Winter Solo Recital: Sunday, March 14 at 4pm (YouTube premiere). Your private teacher will share more details about how to participate.

All students are expected to participate in Winter Showcase Week (March 22-27). A "Showcase" is an informal Zoom performance for a panel of two musiConnects teachers, who will listen, ask a few questions, and share constructive feedback. Family members and friends - near and far! - are all welcome to join!

Note: David will make every effort to schedule the Showcase during your normal class/lesson time, but there may need to be a few appointments on Saturday, March 27.

#studentspotlight

Every Friday, we feature a musiConnects student (or group of students) who has demonstrated exceptional effort! Teachers nominate students who have been practicing hard and making progress - is it your turn next?

What we've been up to: Harmony Strings & mC2

  • This February, mC group classes have embarked on a creative composition project using Rachel's Harmony Strings curriculum! It started with a question: "Can you think of a time when you felt like you counted? Can you think of a time when you felt listened to?" which then led to short musical ideas ("motives"), which grew into a shared piece of music. We're excited to share the results of this project at Spirit on March 18!
  • Our peer leadership group, mC2, has been meeting weekly, having thoughtful discussions on a range of topics, and working on an original arrangement of the famous anime hit Blue Bird. This group is open to committed students in grades 6-12 - talk to your teacher if you would like to be considered for next year (2021-22)!

Save the Date for two upcoming opportunities!

  • Saturday, March 20 at 10am: the annual El Sistema Day of Joy gives mC students the chance to meet young musicians from other programs across Massachusetts (watch for the Zoom link, which will be emailed & posted on the Family Portal the week of the event).
  • Thursday, April 15, volunteers from Continuo Boston will once again visit All-Play to lead a special workshop! The Continuo volunteers have also been invited to get to know us better by observing Zoom classes in March - welcome back, Continuo!
