Due to the pandemic, our 3-5 year old children did not return to school this fall. Everyone was disappointed, but knowing how important it is in early childhood to continuously foster learning, we sought creative ways to keep the children engaged until they can return. Our teachers, Martha and Nancy, created learning kits for each family. Each kit was designed for a specific age and distributed to family members who learned how to use them when they came by appointment to pick them up at school.
The teachers are assessing the children's progress by checking in with families on a regular basis. This is challenging for both the teachers and families as it is rainy season in Sayulita which can make communication difficult. Streets are muddy, phone lines are often down and the internet is limited.
The children are adjusting as most children do, but they miss their teachers and friends. They are also missing the special sessions we offer weekly like English language, yoga and music. We all look forward to seeing their smiles and hearing their laughter again soon. Most of the children are working at home, but some families have created small learning pods where they can work together.
