ITAT Takes Down Tobacco with Affirmations

Our ITAT students are building their confidence and self efficacy with club affirmations!

As we move into our new initiative of suicide prevention, we need to be well-versed in mental health and self care, as we will be educating our peers and community on these topics. For our June challenge, each ITAT presidency was tasked with creating 3 affirmations for their club to recite each time they meet throughout the school year. Our thoughts and actions shape our beliefs and experience of the world around us, and the way we speak to ourselves can make or break our attitude each day.

"The word affirmation comes from the Latin affirmare, which means “to strengthen and make steady.” Affirmation statements are affirming that something is true for us. The purpose of positive affirmations is to affirm to ourselves that things are good even if we don’t necessarily feel that way at the time." -goodtherapy.org

        JuneSpotlight

Our student spotlight for the month of June is West Lake High School ITAT president and varsity soccer captain, Mattyn Summers

Mattyn has been the Westlake ITAT president for 2 consecutive years. She was also the varsity girls soccer captain this year, and won the Girls Play of the Year award by scoring the winning goal against West Jordan High School at the first round of the State championship. This allowed her team to continue on to the next round.

"I have really enjoyed being able to be apart of Itat. Not only have I had the opportunity to educate my peers but I have also been educated on the harmful effects of e-cigarettes and tobacco products. It has also been really fun meeting new people from my area with the many activities we are able to participate in. I am excited to see what else we will do this year to spread awareness."

We are so proud of Mattyn and all of her accomplishments!
