Often, it is the key to relationship-building, team development, and overall productivity. This course pays attention to a skill set that is useful in the workplace (written and spoken communication), while also bringing into light a communication aspect that is often overlooked – active listening. By the end of the two-day course, participants will be able to: 1. Describe what is effective communication 2. Assess personal communication skills 3. Apply principles in effective spoken and written communication 4. Practice active listening skills Whether one is a member of top management or is just starting one’s career, this course is beneficial for those who are seeking to further develop themselves through communication. Module 1: Welcome and Introductions A. Participant introductions B. Workshop guidelines C. Overview of Communication Process Module 2: Spoken Communication Considerations It is not just the command of the English language that makes a speaker effective. One must also be aware of the other elements that affect the way spoken messages are delivered. Module 3: Active Listening Skills Throughout one’s schooling, not a single course focused on listening skills. However, this skill is a crucial communication tool is vital if one wants to be more successful in receiving and sending messages. Module 4: Effective Business Writing The workplace requires some form of written communication. Whether writing a memo, a report, an e-mail, or a social media entry, principles can be adapted to ensure the written word conveys its true intention. Module 5: Wrap Up and Next Steps Other tips and techniques will be shared to ensure that participants continue developing communication skills as part of their life-long learning goals. Our facilitator uses different methodologies to ensure the learners’ high engagement and participation. Modules include group discussions, role-plays, presentations, and other activities designed to promote a highly-interactive session. Ms. SaRGe is an independent HR and OD consultant and has done projects for government agencies, conglomerates, and non-profit organizations. Her more than 20 years’ work experience includes being an Associate Director for HR Management and Development Services of the Ateneo Center for Organization Research Development. While she specializes in Learning and Development, her career also covered the fields of human resource management, public relations, special events management, and broadcast communications; covering the industries of water provision, shopping center management, BPO/call center, IT education, government, and media. She was a Training Manager for Manila Water and SM Supermalls where she developed and implemented their learning curriculum, and management development programs. She also worked with Accenture and Sykes Asia, Inc., where she was responsible for their communications, leadership, and technical training. Other engagements include working as a PR Manager and English instructor for Informatics Computer Institute, Program Manager for Lakbay TV, Segment Producer for GMA Network, and as Project Coordinator for the Office of the President in Malacañang. She holds an AB Communication Arts degree from the Ateneo de Manila University and is currently pursuing her MBA also in the same university. She passed the Civil Service Exams for Professionals in 2017.
