In the age of data and analytics it’s easy to overlook the processes that actually drive human interaction and decision-making. Consider this: given the choice would you rather read a list of ingredients and nutritional facts or a story about the farmer who grew one of them and how his farm has been in his family for six generations. For most people the choice is obvious.
When Google updated the format of their search results, local businesses felt the change. A search for ‘grocery store’ used to return seven of the best local options to the searcher in a box called the local pack. The local pack is where those businesses are shown on the map and their website, hours and contact information are listed.
Now, in a move designed to be optimized for mobile searches, only three businesses make the local pack cut. While that could spell bad news for businesses four through seven, making it to the top three could lead to a surge of new business.
It isn't even Halloween yet, but many retail stores are already starting to put out Christmas merchandise. But retailers aren’t the only ones who stand to benefit from getting ahead of the holiday game. It’s time for small businesses to start thinking about your end-of-year holiday marketing too.
