On October 22, the City of Boulder's Open Space and Mountain Parks department, Parks and Rec Senior Planning Manager Mark Davison, and Growing Up Boulder, led a Roll and Stroll hike for local families and youth.  Hosted on OSMP accessible trails, these hikes are specifically created for people who are in wheelchairs or are experiencing some sort of disability, and they are open to all families (read here for more details).  As part of GUB's Ecohealing project, children and families shared what they love about nature, and also, where there are barriers to accessing nature.  Feedback will help inform our collaborative "ecohealing" work.

Little Diner: Valeria

This month, First Bite Boulder and Dagabi Cucina awarded a gift card to a Growing Up Boulder family so that they might dine out in celebration of the launch of the Little Diners Program.  The Little Diners Program, a partnership between First Bite, Meati, and GUB, is a community resource and platform created to elevate young people in the dining out experience. Mother, Jetza, father, Pedro, and their daughter, Valeria, enjoyed dinner at Dagabi, where they not only experienced a superb meal, but child-friendly activities to keep the whole family engaged while dining out.

Thanks First Bite and Dagabi!

"My family and I love this restaurant; the menu has several Mediterranean choices,  and we love small plates for sharing “tapas”. We have celebrated birthdays, graduations, gatherings, and even an engagement at Dagabi Cucina, because the staff is incredibly kind and helpful - particularly, the manager, Antonio. My seven-year-old daughter enjoys playing with the Wix Sticks [supplied by the restaurant] to create sculptures and funny shapes.  The best part is Wix Sticks aren't messy or toxic, and as parents, we know that is incredibly important. Valeria loves eating Spanish tortillas, cheese pizza and homemade bread with their signature sauce.
I highly recommend this restaurant as a family- and child- friendly place in Boulder."

In between the fall of 2021 and summer of 2022, researcher and Growing Up Boulder partner, Darcy Kitching, collaborated with the Boulder County Youth Transportation Program and GUB to better understand what young people, caregivers, and transportation professions think about weekday travel and the difficult task of commuting to and from schools in our comunity.  To learn more about Kitching's discoveries and share your own experiences of transporting yourself and your child to and from school, visit the Boulder County School Travel Study website and then head on over for a tour of the Museum of Boulder exhibit open from now until December 1st (note that the Museum of Boulder website has not been updated to mirror the extension of the exhibit).
