What a year this has been! For many (myself included), we anxiously look forward to turning the page of this tumultuous year. But before we turn the page, I would like to take this moment to reflect on the many opportunities that arose out of such turmoil and unrest this year. These past nine months have dramatically altered how we served the community and while many changes were huge challenges, the ingenuity that resulted allowed us to continue with the heart of our mission. I am furthermore reminded that, "In hard times, you either adapt or falter." I personally would like to thank the BarbaraCares Board of Directors, our community partners, vendors, our faithful volunteers and every donor that has allowed BarbaraCares the room in this season to adapt during these unprecedented times. Because of your support, we were able to expand beyond breast cancer patients and caregivers, to support entire communities in need across the state during this pandemic. Truly this has been a year of "Expanded Impact!" On behalf of the Board, again I say thank you! We have made it to the end of another year and regardless of what 2021 holds, we are fully committed to meeting the needs of the people and ensuring advocacy continues. We wish you all a happy, safe and healthy holiday! And in the words of my mother Barbara, "Continue to Fight, Smile AND Fight Some More!"
Xavier E. Sanders - Executive Director / Board Chair

Despite several events being cancelled including: March for Mammograms and our annual Care2Fight Health & Wellness Fair, the BarbaraCares Foundation could not ignore the pressing and immediate needs of the community during the height and continued surge of the coronavirus pandemic. Beginning in March, The Care2Fight Health Initiative was put into action to provide COVID Care Packages for businesses, organizations, agencies and residents in our effort to keep the community safe. We applied for AND received grant funding through Tarrant County to expand on our efforts to keep Texans safe. Through this initiative, we have provided over 12,000 PPE items including: masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes, face shields, thermometers and more to individuals and communities most at risk. This effort will continue through 2021 as we commit in helping stop the spread of COVID.
October 2020 was one for the books. Due to local COVID-19 restrictions, the BarbaraCares Foundation had to alter previous plans to implement our first ever month-long virtual commemoration for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 5 Weeks. Broken Silence Awareness. was a five week targeted Public Service Campaign featuring topics surrounding breast cancer. With several special panel guests including former US Surgeon General, Antonia Novell0, we were able to shed light on a host of issues facing the community and what our responsibility is collectively to address these growing mortality and incident rates. If you missed any of the segments, click below to watch the replay. Each segment is featured by category.
Although March for Mammograms was cancelled, the #Mile1000 initiative moved forward full speed ahead adhering to both local and state COVID guidelines. The BarbaraCares Foundation in solidarity with all those that have fought or are currently fighting a breast cancer diagnosis, pledges 1,000 miles to raise awareness for advocacy and supportive services through the foundation. The pandemic doesn't stop a diagnosis, so we can't stop in our means to assists those on this journey. For information about #Mile1000 or to get involved, click below.
In our continued effort to promote health and wellness, the BarbaraCares Foundation partnered with the Hispanic Wellness Coalition to provide 500 FREE Flu Shots to residents at risk in Tarrant County. This community effort gave access to much needed medical services to ensure citizens remained healthy during the COVID outbreak and the approaching flu season. BarbaraCares also partnered with Fort Worth based Ladies of Excellence Chat N Chew for our annual Thankful-Giving Outreach to provide Turkey's to families for the Thanksgiving holiday. Through both efforts, the foundation was able to give immediate resources to those in need.
