Brett Artwork
Brett Artwork

You have probably noticed the carefully curated artwork that adorns the walls of the salon, but did you know many of our pieces are from local visual artist and Bzar client Brett Allen? A native of Kansas City, Allen has been producing art in the Kansas City and Lawrence areas for over twenty years, working in several mediums. His work has been exhibited across the country and internationally. Though most of his work is concentrated in painting, Allen’s sculptures have been exhibited as well. One of his outdoor sculptures has been immortalized as a “Pokéstop” in Pokémon Go.

Allen’s style flows between abstract and pop art. His most current work focusses on personal symbolism: symbols distilled from relationships and events, manifested as animal figures, ever-day objects, and pop culture references. These images are married with Allen’s abstract sensibilities, placing the image on backgrounds composed of abstract painting, repurposed materials, and collaged materials. Layers of wood, paint, shapes, colors, figures, and textures are corralled into a framework and orchestrated into an image that is singular in vision though somewhat enigmatic in implication.

Top knots are being replaced by the classic high pony.  Sleek and straight are two words we will be hearing a lot this spring.  If your hair gives you problems while trying to achieve this look, fear not!  The Moroccan Oil smoothing line will help you easily recreate the trend flawlessly.  Use a lightweight oil to smooth down flyways at the crown.

This spring it's all about laid back style on a daily basis. Flat iron waves are going to be the go-to style. To achieve this look wrap your hair through the flat iron and twist in alternating directions for a natural look. Add to the trend by using a styling product such as our Keune Fibre Wax to give the look a more lived in vibe!

Toss your chokers to the side, because long necklaces have made their comeback! Elongating earrings and chunky pendant necklaces dominated the runways this spring. Show your artistic side by choosing futuristic lines, graphic shapes, and innovative materials.

Loose casual men's dress shirts are being fashioned into flowing dresses for the season. Classic pale blue and pinstripes give these menswear-inspired looks a business casual twist.

Cream blushes are a perfect way to add a natural luminescence to your cheeks. GloMinerals Guava cream blush is a highly pigmented rosy pink shade that can be worn as a healthy glow of color or built up for a more dramatic look.  To apply, smile and use your fingers or a brush to make soft circular motions, beginning at the apples of your cheeks and going back towards your ears. Placing the product forwards to back gives the most natural looking flush!

Have you ever tried using a blush as an eyeshadow? Let’s get crazy!  First, apply GloMinerals Lid Primer from lash line to brow bone. (I like to use my fingers for this step.) Next, grab your handy GloMinerals Eye Blender brush. Dip into Paradise blush and get a generous amount. Using small circular motions from the outer corner of your eyelid, apply the blush in the crease of your eye. You could leave the shadow alone for a subtle statement or for a more glamorous look add your favorite shimmery eyeshadow on the lid!

One of our favorite trends for lips this spring is rose gold lips! Beginning with GloMinerals Petal Precision Lip Pencil, line your lips starting from the cupid’s bow and working out.  Filling in the entire lip will accentuate the cupid’s bow without making you feel like RuPaul. Next, dip the wand in GloMinerals Rose Gold gloss. You can get a more even and precise application by working the product off the wand and onto a smudge brush. Apply to lips and you are good to go!
