It's Time to Act for the 2024 Local, State and National Campaigns!

ICDP’s Campaign Committee recently kicked off a phone campaign for reaching Iosco Dems who did not vote either in 2020 or 2022 or both elections. Using the VAN we have lists of these Dems in each of the five County Commission districts.  The lists were divided into kits of several dozen names sorted by town and road. Eight committee members have been making calls over the past several weeks. We plan to finish this project with a list of voters who will add to our reliable Dems in November.  We will keep in touch and encourage them to join the ICDP. Please see the attachment for the latest Campaign Committee report and additional information.

Project 83 Update: Precinct Delegates Needed

Picture

Precinct delegates are the most localized representatives of the Democratic Party. They regularly attend Democratic meetings and conventions to represent their neighborhood. Precinct Delegates also play an important role in the Party’s functioning, voting to nominate candidates, elect Party leadership, and adopt the Party’s platform. The ICDP needs YOU to help motivate the electorate to vote - become a Precinct delegate! Additional information below

Call to Action: Share Cards about What's at Stake in the 2024 Election

Membership Committee Chair Deirdre Honner recently shared this information with me from Heather Cox Richardson GOTV initiative. Wouldn't it be amazing if we shared these cards here in Iosco County?

ICDP Support Helps Community Members in Need

ICDP members generously responded to the NEMCSA/Iosco County homeless project this year. 19 people donated money and supplies. The Oscoda Rotary also donated hats, gloves, scarves and gloves and the ICDP donated a $500.00 check and toys for the toddlers and preteens. Beth Borowski researched the status of the homeless and unhoused people in Iosco County and worked with Victoria from NEMCSA in Alpena. This happened in a few days’ time, just before Christmas when people are the busiest! People came to the work bees to help on Sunday, December 17 and Tuesday December 19.  One member who didn’t want to give his name brought in a banquet table full of food. He said that he was moved by our email and really wanted to help. Beth and I handwrote thank you cards and thanked everyone who donated and came to the work bees. To reach our anonymous donor, we are also sending this thank you via this email. Please watch your emails for next holiday’s caring project in early December 2024. We’d like to get more people involved. It’s a good thing to take care of the people in the county that we live in.

Engaging Brew ‘N Stew Gathering in January

On the evening of January 17, 2024, ICDP members gathered at Democratic Party headquarters for a Brew and Stew that offered conversation, an extensive chili dinner and the opportunity to learn about efforts to improve various aspects of Iosco County.  Christopher Martin, Develop Iosco’s executive director, shared information and answered questions for about 45 minutes.  He most kindly brought very classy cloth shopping bags and pens to help promote DI’s work in the community. He then stayed for some time longer to chat individually with members.  What a benefit for all!  This is definitely an organization that is having a positive influence in the area.

ICDP's Perchville 2024 activities a great success!

Perchville 2024 is one for the books! The Iosco County Headquarters served chili to several hundred participants - 700 by one count.  With lines out the door, the ICDP crew served up chili, talked to the members and guests visiting and handed out information. Many of the guests took advantage of our chairs and seating options, giving their legs a rest and enjoyed the wonderful chili.

Several participants came through with matching numbers, thrilled with winning the beautiful coasters made by members Cindy Schwedler and Beth Borowski. People really loved them, especially when they got one free of charge. Richard Douglass said, “We welcomed a cross section of Michigan, from Dearborn to Alpena, Grand Rapids to Harrisville, and they left with smiles, good thoughts about the ICDP, and we contributed to our downtown East Tawas celebration of Winter.”

The ICDP members provided more than 150 hours of volunteer time to make this event a success. 18 people helped in one way or another by donating pelts and carpets, shopping, setting up, cooking, serving, staffing the activity, cleaning up, making coasters and certificates to name a few. Beth Borowski alone spent 50 hours prepping, painting and sealing those beautiful coasters. Congratulations to the cookoff winners It was another great event!

Deirdre Honner, Membership Committee Chair

For the first time in many years  the Dems were involved in the Family Expo during Perchville.  Located at the E. Tawas Community Center from 10-4, there was lots to see, do and eat!  The Dem activity involved exploring 5 Michigan pelts and matching them to pictures. Everyone seemed to enjoy matching,  touching and naming the animals. There were certificates, color beads and praise galore!  Thanks to the Rise and Harry Burgess for use of the pelts. And a big round of applause to the volunteers that interacted with the youngsters and their families.
