Second harvest food drive

November 4-8th

The Ormondale 2019 Second Harvest Food Drive is coming up soon! This year it's November 4th-8th!  Before the drive, students will meet with their school "families" to decorate paper bags to take home and fill with food to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank. We hope you will send your Ormondale student with a bag full of food to donate during our food drive week!  Last year we earned a bronze award from Second Harvest for our collection efforts -- let's beat that this year!

Bins will be available outside of the Ormondale office for donations 11/4-11/8 and we'll have volunteers during car line drop off to help as well.  If you'd like to help, please contact Dana Hartman-Ngaloafe by email at [email protected].

UPCOMING CULTURAL ASSEMBLY

Mark your calendars for November 13th when world-record holder John Collins, who's also known as the Paper Airplane Guy will visit Ormondale. He will demonstrate his planes to teach students about complicated ideas like fluid dynamics. We are looking forward to this interactive assembly that makes terms like "dihedral angle" sound accessible to kids.

LOOKING FOR YOSEMITE CLOSET DONATIONS!

The annual 7th grade trip to Yosemite is coming up mid November. In an effort to reduce the need to purchase hiking shoes and new clothing items, the PTO is continuing the lending closet that allows students to borrow gently-used items they'll need on the trip.

There will be a collection box in front of the office UNTIL WEDNESDAY, 10/23 for any of your donations.

  • Waterproof hiking boots (youth size 5 & up, adult sizes any)
  • Rain Jackets & Pants (youth small/medium/large or adult small)
  • Fleece jackets & layers (youth small/medium/large or adult small)

** 7th grade families - please let Brigid Horgan, Dan Flahavan, or Kim Zamboldi know if your child is in need of any items, and we will try to pair your child with the appropriate gear.

Come show your CMS pride by taking part in our campus-wide beautification projects from 10am-noon on Sunday, November 3rd. The whole family is invited to help refresh the garden area and spread mulch around campus, as well as help with campus-wide trash collection and other small projects.

If you are interested in helping lead an effort on 11/3 or assisting beforehand with messaging or recruiting, please email: [email protected].

Everyone is encouraged to participate in this fun community-building event!

Your foundation dollars at work: Sound system upgrades on both campuses

They practiced their stage entrances and band compositions for months. They endured rehearsals and costume fittings. They fought through pre-performance jitters. And then … They did it! They aced their lines. They hit every note. They were magnificent!

But you couldn’t hear it. Where you sat, the sound mix was a jumbled mess.

That was the reality of school plays and music concerts at both Ormondale and Corte Madera in recent years because the old audio systems were outdated, broken, and simply not doing the job after more than a decade of service.

But not anymore. The Portola Valley Schools Foundation, in conjunction with the District, purchased new amplifiers and sound controllers that run off of an iPad using a graphical programming system. When combined with the microphones the Foundation paid for in 2017, the sound quality is greatly enhanced for plays, concerts, school assemblies, music to energize the kids during gym class, and more.

Finally, your children will be …. heard.
