A Tibetan Buddhist Centre in the Sakya Tradition

Issue 71 August 2024

Dear Dharma Friends,

Long Life Puja and Prayers for World Peace

We warmly invite you to attend the Long Life Puja for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and His Holiness Sakya Trichen Rinpoche the 41st Sakya Trizin at Kamalashila Tibetan Buddhist Centre over 6-7 September 2024.

In the Tibetan tradition, certain pujas are required to support the long life of our most precious teachers. This puja is for our Precious Master and Guru of all beings, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and our own karmically-connected Mahasiddha Root Guru Vajradhara Sakya Trichen Rinpoche. The puja is based on an ancient oracle prophesied long life prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and also a divination by His Eminence Luding Khen Rinpoche, Throneholder of the Ngorpa School within the Sakya Lineage.

The two days will include a Long Life Deity Puja, The Sixteen Arhat Puja, Mahakala Puja, and recitation of the Mangala Sutra and other mantras. The puja also celebrates the 80th birthday of His Holiness the Sakya Trichen in the Western calendar, on 7 September.

In view of all the troubling events going on in the world at this time, we will also dedicate the puja for the promotion of world peace.

Khenpo Ngawang Dhamchoe from Drogmi Buddhist Institute and Lama Kunchok from Sakya Choekhor Lhunpo have organised this two-day puja and extend to you a warm invitation to attend. Food and accommodation will be provided including dinner on both Friday and Saturday.

We recommend that you bring offerings such as food, flowers, tea or other contributions for the puja.

Bookings are essential! Read more for details…

We look forward to seeing you there. Thank you.

Yours in the Dharma

FROM OUR MASTERS
Picture

“When you are following the teachings and putting them into practice, it is so important not to do so with the ideas of being respected or rewarded for your great learning, but with the thought “May I attain enlightenment and be able to give these teachings to all beings, thus leading them to Buddhahood”. If your mind is orientated toward such positive goals, you can be sure that the words you speak and the actions you perform, like servants taking their cue from their master, will naturally follow in the same direction. But if your mind is distracted and full of attachment, animosity, and ignorance, then however many millions of mantras that you may recite or prostrations you offer, it will be like eating tasty food mixed with poison. That is not the way to progress towards Buddhahood.

Try to maintain perfectly pure thoughts in all circumstances, so that even the most insignificant of your acts will preserve their positive energy until you attain enlightenment. A drop of water that falls into the ocean will last as long as the ocean itself.
