Call 0867705800 CSR for SMEs Guide Chambers Ireland is delighted to have published a CSR for SMEs Guide, which we will be distributing free of charge to the network this week. The guide outlines the benefits of CSR and ways that SMEs can engage, including the offer of one-on-one meetings with CSR experts from Chambers Ireland's Policy Council at a location convenient to them, and free of charge. This is an excellent opportunity for an SME to develop a plan for CSR in their company with the help of an expert. We have posted 10 of these guides to each Chamber and a PDF version is also available on this website: View the CSR Guide for SMEs here GPP4Growth Project – Business Survey on Participation in Green Tenders Green Public Procurement for Resource-Efficient Regional Growth (GPP4Growth) is a public procurement project aimed at utilising the opportunities related to the adoption of the new EU public procurement system. GPP4Growth aims to support the creation of new opportunities for public authorities to stimulate eco-innovation and green growth. The Department of Communications, Climate Action & Resource Efficiency has informed us of a new survey to examine the factors that influence businesses to participate in green tenders, services and works. The survey is ideal for input from stakeholders who are directly involved in procuring for their organisation or suppliers. If you are involved in procurement for an organisation or suppliers, please take the time to complete the survey which can be found here: Chambers Ireland welcomes publication of draft legal text of the UK Withdrawal Agreement Chambers Ireland today (28 February 2018) welcomes the publication of the draft legal text for the Withdrawal Agreement by the European Commission. Speaking today, Chambers Ireland Chief Executive Ian Talbot welcomed the progress being made by the European Commission in advancing the exit negotiations with the United Kingdom. “Ensuring that there will be no hard border or obstacles to doing business on the island is not only a priority for Government, but also the Irish business community. Over the past twenty years, actively encouraged by the EU, UK and Irish governments, great advances have been made in building a vibrant cross-border economy which has enhanced the development of the region. The proposals outlined in the draft Withdrawal Agreement will allay the concerns of business operating cross border with regard to how regulation, supply chains, transport and trade will operate following the UK’s exit of the European Union.” “However, the Border issue is only one side of the coin. The priority must be to move forward and identify solutions that obviate the need for the 'backstop' measure of Option C. An ambitious trade-friendly relationship between the EU and UK is of deep importance to Irish businesses. However, we can only have these discussions once a Withdrawal Agreement is in place. We call on both negotiating teams to reflect on their December commitments and engage realistically to move this process forward." BUSINESS RATES UPDATE: Summary of the Valuation System and National Revaluation Programme Working with the Valuation Office, Chambers Ireland has put together a summary which aims to assist Chambers and their members in the understanding of the Valuation System and National Revaluation Programme which is currently undertaking a revaluation of all rateable properties in Ireland. The attached summary provides brief information including the role of the Valuation Office , reasons why rates increase and how to appeal a valuation . The purpose of a revaluation is to bring more equity, uniformity, fairness and transparency into the local authority rating system resulting in a more equitable distribution of commercial rates among ratepayers. Following revaluation there will be a much closer relationship between the rental value or valuation of a property and its commercial rates liability. Neither residential property nor agricultural lands are rateable and consequently are not affected by the revaluation. The programme has already been completed in the Carlow, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal, Kildare, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Longford, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo, South Dublin and Westmeath County Councils and in Dublin City Council, Waterford City and County Council and Limerick City and County Council rating authority areas. A second revaluation of the South Dublin county council rating authority area was completed in 2017. Revaluation 2019 will result in the revaluation of commercial and industrial properties in Cavan, Louth, Meath, Monaghan, Tipperary , Wexford and Wicklow County Councils. The Fingal County Council Rating Authority area will undergo a second Revaluation having initially been the subject of a Revaluation in 2009.
