ITAT Works With Utah County

During April our ITAT students had the opportunity to work with Utah County Health Department and Outrage Tobacco education youth group to collect retail observation surveys in their local neighborhoods.

Our Island teens went out into their communities and observed and researched the marketing tactics Big Tobacco uses in their areas. They also made note of marketing tactics used to promote the sales of alcohol and vapes. After their data collection, students compiled their research into reports that will be shared with local legislators to bring their attention to the targeted marketing of tobacco and vape products to youth and ethnic-minority communities.

Our ITAT students were also busy in April with outreach and advocacy events. They promoted the ITAT organization and recruited other students to join, and highlighted their advocacy work for tobacco/vape education and mental health awareness at "Stand Up For Something Day" at West Jordan High School. ITAT alumni also joined in and helped present and promote ITAT.  They even used baby dolls and presented research on how tobacco and vaping negatively impact everyone, even babies!

Our ITAT students also presented on tobacco/vape education to their school administrators and shared about ITAT activities they participate in and plan. The students even planned another advocacy event where they will present their educational research to SLCC students!

We are so proud of our youth and their dedication to advocacy and community work!
