Since its founding just three years ago, the NMMS has awarded 20 music scholarship awards, totaling $17,000 to New Mexican girls of color between the ages of 8 to 15. The scholarships have inspired and encouraged girls from all over the state to pursue and achieve their musical dreams. The awards are unrestricted so that funds can be applied where the need is greatest—music lessons, instrument purchase, travel expenses, or any cost that is essential to supporting access to learning We are so proud of what our scholarship award recipients have accomplished, because of YOUR support... Ishi, 17, was able to purchase digital music equipment enabling her to write, arrange, perform, and produce an album of original music. She performs her powerful songs at many local music festivals. Narai, 17, attended the prestigious Lamont School of Music Summer Institute at the University of Denver for 2 years to study cello performance and was also able to pay off the balance on her beautiful cello. Victoria Cazares, a 6th grader in Las Cruces, uses her scholarship award to purchase a viola of her very own. She is now able to practice at home to her heart's desire. These are just 3 examples of how your donations to the NMMS make a real difference in the lives of these girls and their families! We have big plans for expanding the scope of our organization! With your help we can reach even more girls each year. We have already established the Más Musica fund and we hope to continue supporting past award winners with music lessons, mentorship, performance opportunities and upgraded instruments.
