SUBMIT YOUR CHILD'S PICTURE

Please submit a photo of your child to your Home Room Parent ASAP.  These photos will be arranged into a placemat for your child to have at home. They can have it in their workspace to help to familiarize them with their classmates. The goal is to have these printed and sent home in the next material pick up. A BIG thank you for those that have already submitted.

Art in Action Volunteers Needed

Creativity is not cancelled!

Volunteers are needed to help lead art activities in most classes (K-3). Please consider volunteering to lead an art lesson for your child’s class.  During Distance Learning there are 1 or 2 lessons that can be done virtually.  Once students are back in school we can work to Zoom into the classrooms where they can access paints, pastels and other materials.  The Art in Action program provides the background, directions and talk points for each lesson.  It’s a fun way to interact with your child’s class!

If interested, please send a message to Kit [email protected] and include your child’s class/teacher.

FROM CHAOS TO CALM: Building Teen Resilience & Agency

Thurs Oct 8, 7:00–8:15pm   Registration Coming Soon!

Parenting teens is not easy, even in ideal circumstances. But parenting with imposed social distancing when adolescents thrive on face-to-face interactions creates unprecedented challenges. The balance of honoring valid feelings at the same time as encouraging effective problem solving is a tight-rope—for parents and our teens! Join Dr. Laura Kastner, clinical psychologist and author, as she helps us identify the evidence-based factors that predict best outcomes for people who successfully adapt to challenging circumstances. She will articulate the need for resilience and personal agency – the ability to plan and direct action toward realistic goals, adjusting as needed – as key strengths that can help both parents and teens in these complex times. With warmth and calm reassurance, Dr. Kastner will provide us with action-oriented strategies for skillful and effective ways of coping, optimism, and problem-solving.

Foundation News

Why Haven’t You Heard From the pv Schools foundation Yet?

End of summer. Back to school. Kick off the Annual Campaign fundraising drive for the Portola Valley Schools Foundation. Happens like clockwork every year, right? So why haven’t you heard from us yet?

This year, between pandemics and wildland fires, the Foundation decided to delay the official launch of its Annual Campaign until mid-October. Until then or if you already gave, please know that your donation is as critical this year as it has been in the past, especially in light of these extraordinary times.

Previous years’ giving is what enabled our District to maintain the small class sizes needed to conduct learning during a pandemic this year. Our donors’ past generosity also allowed the District to provide enrichment programs and continue its focus on providing a truly top-notch education.

We recognize that this year doesn’t look like any other in memory—and your contribution is more important than ever to ensure our students stay on track!

Next week: How is the PVSF Different from the PTO?
