1. Event Details:

Time: Check-in begins at 9.00am.

Location: Great Eccleston Showground, Great Eccleston, Preston PR3 0YQ.

Start Time per Distance: 10k starts at 10.00am, 5k starts at 10.15am and the 2k starts at 10.30am

Weather Conditions: Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.
2. Registration and Check-In:

Pre-Registration: All competitors must pre-register online before the event. On-site registration will not be available.

Check-In: On the day of the event, proceed to the registration desk to check in and collect your welcome pack.

Identification: Bring a valid ID and a copy of your registration confirmation for verification.

Waiver: All participants must sign a waiver form at check-in. Minors (under 18) must have a parent or guardian present to sign.
3. Equipment Requirements:

Dog Harness: Your dog must wear a proper canicross harness. No choke or prong collars are allowed.

Waist Belt and Bungee Line: You must use a waist belt and a bungee line with a maximum length of 2 meters when stretched.

Footwear: Appropriate running shoes are recommended for varied terrain.

Water and Snacks: Please bring enough water and snacks for you and your dog.
4. Health and Safety Guidelines:

Dog Health: Ensure your dog is fit to participate. Dogs must be a minimum of 12 months old and should have no known health issues.

Vaccinations: All dogs must be up-to-date on vaccinations and flea/tick prevention.

Behaviour: Dogs showing aggressive behaviour may be disqualified. If your dog becomes distressed or shows signs of heat exhaustion, stop immediately and seek assistance from event staff.

First Aid: There will be first aid kits available for both humans and dogs along the course.
5. Race Rules:

Leash Protocol: Keep your dog on a leash at all times. Please respect the space of other participants and maintain control of your dog.

Overtaking: Announce clearly when overtaking another runner, and pass on the left. Allow space for other competitors and their dogs.

Clean Up: Be responsible and clean up after your dog.
6. Course Information:

Terrain: The course includes gravel and grassy paths. Be prepared for uneven surfaces.

Routes: All three routes will be available to view on the website on Thursday 5th September.

Markers: The course will be clearly marked with signs and tape.

Water Stations: Water stations for dogs and humans will be available at checkpoints along the route (10k).
7. Post-Race:

Finishing Line: After crossing the finish line, proceed to the designated cool-down area for your dog.
8. Photography and Media:
- Photographers will be present throughout the event. By participating, you agree to have your and your dog’s photos taken and used for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to be photographed, please inform the registration desk at check-in.

Handy FAQ's
What is Canicross? Canicross is a sport where a person runs with their dog. The dog is attached to the runner's waist with a harness and a bungee cord, or strong non-extendable lead.
Who can participate in a Canicross event? Anyone with a dog that is fit, healthy, and enjoys running. There are usually categories for different age groups and skill levels. Age limits apply: 2k humans need to be over 7 on the day, 5k humans need to be over 10 on the day, 10k humans need to be over 14 on the day. All under 18 years must be accompanied to the event with an appropriate parent/guardian.
What equipment is needed for Canicross? Participants need a suitable harness for their dog, a waist belt for themselves, and a bungee cord or line to connect them, or strong non-extendable lead. Trail running shoes are recommended for the runner.
Are there any breed restrictions for the dogs? No specific breed restrictions, but the dog should be physically capable of running the distance and be in good health.
Is there any training required before participating? Basic training for your dog to run alongside you is recommended. Both the runner and the dog should be accustomed to the distances involved in the event.
Can children participate? Yes, with adult supervision if under 18 on the day!
Are there water stations along the course? Water is available to both dogs and humans along the 5k & 10k route. Water is avaiable at the end of all distances for both dogs and humans.
What if my dog gets tired or doesn't want to run? Your dog's welfare is paramount. If your dog is tired or unwilling to run, you should stop and not force them to continue.
Can we walk? YES, all distances are open to walkers as well as runners.
Can I run with more than 1 dog? NO. The limit is one dog per paying human.
