Passing the Peace

For the 6 Sundays in the season of Lent, during the mutual greeting time, we would like to experiment with something new: "The passing of the peace."  The link below provides a helpful background to the practice.  Here's a summary: "Today in many congregations we may pass the peace...At these times we leave the comfort of our seat, turn to our neighbors, grasp their hands, and speak the words, "The peace of the Lord be with you" and receive the words in turn, "And also with you."  The gesture is simple, but the meaning is profound.  When we extend our hand to another, we identify with Jesus, who extended his life to the point of death to make peace with humanity (Col. 1:20-21)

We look forward to exploring & hopefully being shaped by this practice together!

Opportunity to Serve

The deacons are looking for furniture bank drivers and helpers!  They put up a March/April calendar in the fellowship hall.  If you see an open date that you can serve, please write your name on the calendar!  See Terry Lowe or Jo Pilon with questions.

Dear Congregation – As you know, Tom will be leaving us this summer after 12 years as our pastor of worship and youth.   Tom and Hilary appreciate your prayers as they seek God’s leading for what comes next for them.   And we as a church appreciate your prayers as we seek God’s leading for what comes next for us.   The Council has approved the following process and time table as we think about our future staffing needs.  Questions or comments can be made to Pastor Mark, our Administrator Kim Stuard, or Council President Sjoerd Kiers.

Process:

1.  Council approves a process and a task force of 5-6 people.

2.  Perform a congregational needs assessment - reviewing our current vision, mission, and ministry strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities.  Our congregation has changed a lot in the last 12 years and we want to make sure that a new staff position fits our present realities.

3.  Review our organizational chart.  How does a new position fit with current staff and leadership?

4.  Create a new job description, presenting this to the Council and then congregation and getting appropriate buy in.

5.  Council appoints a search committee.

6.  Publicize our job opening and receive applications

7.  Screen all applicants initially paying particular attention to character, passion and “cultural fit.”

8.  Conduct interviews with suitable applicants

9.  Council hires new staff.

Timetable:

  • Inform the congregation of our process by Palm Sunday,
  • Bring a job description to the congregation at the annual meeting.
  • Have a person hired by September.
