SEASONAL RECIPES + PLANT SALE + WORKSHOP RECAP

Picture

"Thank you" to everyone who came and participated in our fermentation workshop! Particular gratitude to Megan Ross for taking the time to share your knowledge on fermenting and intentional uses of resources, and to John MacManamy and his talented students for providing live music throughout the afternoon.

If you missed the workshop but would still like to try your hand at at-home fermentation, we still have some fermentation kits available at the store, and we also have the informational/instructional handouts that Megan created for the workshop that guides you through the process.

Raw Corn + Zucchini Salad

I have been making this refreshing salad/side dish every summer for years and it never gets old. When sweet corn comes in season, this dish is the first thing I think of. Its easy, delicious and is great on its own or as a side to summer meals. We have what you need: sweet corn, zucchini, lime juice (limes arrive Friday), olive oil, fresh cilantro, salt & pepper.

Find the full recipe here.

Heirloom Tomato Galette w/Honeyed Goat Cheese, Caramelized [Vidalia Onions] + Fresh Thyme

We tried this one for the first time last year, and it was well worth the effort. So many deliciously fresh flavors in one dish, and just a couple pieces go a long way; especially if served with a nice fresh summer salad (or hey, maybe even some raw corn + zucchini salad :). We have you covered with the following ingredients: salted butter, all purpose flour, sugar, vidalia onions (instead of shallots), olive oil, goat cheese, honey, heirloom tomatoes, salt, pepper, fresh thyme, & eggs.

Roasted Peach Cobbler Cheesecake

Now, while this might not be the healthiest recipe, it is good for one's mental health to indulge once in a while, and if you're going to indulge you might as well not hold back. While I have yet to make this recipe (maybe we will try it this week), I have never been disappointed by any of Butternut Bakery's creations. We have what you need (except the cornstarch...I'm working on it): all purpose flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, unsalted butter, peaches, graham crackers, sugar, cream cheese (try Neufchatel for less fat), eggs, vanilla bean paste & sour cream (arrives Wednesday).

Fact of the Week: Did you know that "U.S. gas stoves leak as much climate pollution (in the form of...methane) as about 500,000 gasoline-powered cars"...and it has recently been discovered "that gas stoves release the carcinogenic benzine, which is linked to a multitude of health problems"? The recently passed Inflation Reduction Act is offering rebates of up to $840 for those who make the switch from gas to electric ranges. See irs.gov for more information.
