THE OXNARD UNIVERSAL ARTS CALENDAR

Attention artists, arts organizations, and aficionados! The Oxnard Arts Commission is proud to introduce the Oxnard Universal Arts Calendar! This interactive timeline is the perfect place to begin if you want to market your event, showcase your talents, or merely find a weekend arts adventure. Ideal for the first date or an educational experience, The Universal Arts Calendar represents the best of Oxnard arts in action. We can't wait to hear from you.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS

THE 10TH ANNUAL
OXNARD TAMALE FESTIVAL

Families, friends, and neighbors are invited to ring in the holiday season at the City of Oxnard's tenth annual Tamale Festival featuring live entertainment, arts and crafts, dancing and, of course, mouthwatering tamales. The festival will take place in downtown Oxnard from 9am to 6:30pm, Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Plaza Park, 500 South "C" Street.

CHALLENGER FLAG FOOTBALL SUPER BOWL

November 5th, 11 am
Come watch the Oxnard Vikings face off against the Conejo Packers at our Challenger Flag Football Super Bowl held this year at Hueneme High School, 500 W Bard Rd.

  • FIESTA ART SALE FUND RAISER
    Purchase small masterpieces donated by SoCal artists and collectors currently on display in the Cellar Gallery through Nov. 19.
     
  • ARTIST’S GALLERY TALK
    Linda Arreola - Thursday, November 9th at 6 pm. Admission is $5 or free for members.
     
  • CAM BOOK CLUB
    The book club meets monthly to discuss books thematically chosen to complement the current exhibitions. Join us at our next meeting to discuss: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. Thursday, November 16 at 6 pm. Program fee is $5 or free for members.
     
  • ART WORKSHOPS
    Building Blocks of Art (Ages 7-11)
    Saturdays (see below), 10:30 am – noon. Program fee is $16 or $11 for members.

FALL EXHIBITIONS AT THE CARNEGIE ART MUSEUM

THE AVALANCHE AND THE SILENCE
New Works of Linda Arreola: Now - November 19, 2017
Linda Arreola is one of the California Community Foundation’s 2017 Fellowship Award Winners. Exhibited is her latest series of sleek, smart, geometric paintings that explore the duality between states of tumultuousness and serenity.
 
COLLECTING/CALIFORNIA LATINO ART
Selected works of California Latino art from the Carnegie's collection will be shown including the 21-foot History of the Chicano Movimiento by Frank Romero, recently returned from his retrospective at the Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach. Carnegie's focus on collecting Latino Art began in 1994 with a group exhibition curated by Romero.
 
The Fall exhibits honor, but are not a part of, the Getty's Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino Art in LA being exhibited at art institutions throughout Southern California.

LAWN BOWLING

Are you ready to try a fun and social activity? If so and you’re age 18 or older, Lawn Bowling is ready for you. Free lessons and free equipment with no obligations are being offered at Oxnard Senior Services - Joslyn Lawn Bowls Club, conveniently located at Oxnard’s Wilson Park, 350 North “C” Street. SANTA FLOAT TOURS

Christmas time is right around the corner, which means Santa Claus is coming to town! Santa will be traveling around Oxnard and making stops at local parks! S.T.E.A.M. Wednesdays

November 8 and November 22, 5:30pm
Oxnard Special Populations offers STEAM classes for physically challenged and special needs individuals. What is STEAM? STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. It’s an education philosophy aimed at teaching students to think critically, and to develop real-world solutions through an engineering and design approach. Classes will be held at the Wilson Senior Center, 350 N. C Street. More information is available at our registration page.

WINTER YOUTH SPORTS REGISTRATION OPEN

If your son or daughter is interested in signing up for Girls, Boys, or Mighty Might Basketball, there's still time for them to join. For individual sign-ups, please visit Oxnard PAL Gym or Colonia Gym. If you or someone you know is interested in starting and leading a team, applications can be found at the Recreation Office, 305 W. Third Street. Team practices begin in November.

YOUTH EVENTS AT THE OXNARD PUBLIC LIBRARY

  • November 8 – Mad Lab
    Be a mad scientist in this club for teens featuring activities based on science, technology, engineering, art and math! Meets at 5pm in Meeting Room B at the Main Branch Library. Grades 7-12.

    We’ll be watching the Pixar favorite, Cars 3 (Rated PG). The movie starts at 3:30pm at the South Oxnard Branch Library, Computer Lab.

  • November 15 – Teen Advisory Council
    Serve your community by being the voice of teens in the library! For grades 7-12. Meets at 5pm at the Main Branch Library, Meeting Room A.

  • November 20 – Beginning Book Reader Club
    We’ll take turns reading a Thanksgiving-themed story for beginning readers and then make a craft. Registration recommended (ages 5-7). Meets at 4pm at the Main Branch Library, Meeting Room B.

  • November 21 – Gamer’s Lounge
    Join us for some friendly competition as we play board games and compete in Mario Kart! For grades 6-12. Meets at 5pm at the Main Branch Library, Meeting Room B.
