Hello once again members of Jerome Country Club! It is time for our monthly newsletter. As October approaches the action at the club will certainly slow down. There are many activities that can take away from your time on the course. Whatever your fall activities may be, I suggest you still make some time for golf. The weather can be some of the best we receive in Southern Idaho and the course is in absolutely fantastic shape.

As we head into the end of the club’s fiscal year, the board is planning its activities for 2017. There are several exciting things on the horizon. One item that seems to have created a buzz is the opportunity to partner up with The First Tee of Idaho to help with our junior golf program. The First Tee is a well-established junior golf organization. It promotes the game by helping shape our future players. We are excited to have the opportunity to work with this organization. I would like to thank Bill Hall and Randy Butler for helping bring the First Tee to Jerome Country Club.

Another new feature I am happy to announce is an upgraded website. The new site should be up and running over the next month. The new site will have a member login that will contain some special features for members only. The member login feature will not be available immediately as we are still developing the feature. There will be more to come!

On October 19th the club will be hosting the high school district cross country championships. The event will take place from 2pm – 8pm on the front nine. The back nine will still be open so you can play. Please feel free to come out and cheer on the JHS cross country team too. Go Tigers!

That about sums it up for this month. As usual, I hope to see you all at the club real soon. Until then, Cheers!

The golf season may be slowing, but this is a great time of year to play.   The course is in wonderful condition and most days the weather is perfect.

The golf events in September were great.  The Women’s “Eclectic” Invitational was fun for all.  The Women’s Association, tournament chairman Mary Schmidt and the tournament committee hosted another wonderful event.  Thank you to all of the volunteers and players for making it a great time.

Congratulations to Earl and Eileen Patterson for their victory in the Club Chapman Championship.  The Chapman Committee does a great job each week and Thank you to Steve and Kay Feldtman for organizing the tournament.

The Snake River Best Ball hosted a full field of Men’s, Women’s and Couples flights.  Thank you to Canyon Springs head Golf Professional Brandon Otte and the Canyon Springs Staff for teaming up with us for this great event.

The Men’s and Women’s Leagues have Completed the 2016 Competition.  Thank you to Janet and Babe for the efforts and organization of Women’s Twilight and to Tom Larsen and the Men’s golf association for hosting the Men’s Twilight League.

The Men’s Day Championship will be contested Monday/Tuesday, Oct 3-4.  Thank You to Paul Fraijo and the Tuesday Men’s Day Committee for their efforts.  Ladies Day will continue on Wednesdays through October. The golf course is in great condition and October is a great time to play.

Be sure to check out the fall stock in the golf shop.  We still have a wide selection of golf equipment and clothing.  Many members still have golf shop credit accumulated from victories this season burning a hole in your pocket.

See you in the Golf Shop!

Ladies Association

Jennifer Kulm

First thing I would like to do is thank Mary Schmitt for an outstanding Ladies Invitational.  It was one of the best run and well organized events I ever played in. Well done Mary.  Player of the month for September are:

  • 2nd flight  -  1st Gross Dee Dee Gott
  • 3rd Flight  -  1st Gross Terry Tracey

I want to thank all the ladies who so graciously brought food to the breakfast for the Ladies Invitational.  Without you we wouldn’t be able to do that.  Also to all the husbands who donate their time to put out sponsor signs, banners, and help with bags and parking.  Thanks so much.

I would like to mention that the Idaho Couples Golf Association will be having their annual meeting at Jerome on the 8th of October at 9:00 am.  If you are interested in finding out more about this association, the meeting would be a good time.  It is a couples golf association that is open to anyone.  They play all over southern Idaho and northern Nevada.

An election was held for new officers for the 2017 year at the Ladies Fall Banquet.  The slate of new officers are:

  • President – Mary Schmitt
  • Vice president – Marta LeMoyne
  • Secretary – Dar Wagner
  • Treasurer – Deb Hagley
  • Past president – Jennifer Kulm
  • Director – Elaine Wigington
  • Director – Larie Hash

It was voted on and approved at the September general meeting to try to have 9 hole and 18 hole play on Ladies day.  That would allow for people who only want to play 9 holes to enjoy their day too.  It has been tried before and didn’t take, but we’re hoping to make it work this time.

Just a reminder that the Ladies awards luncheon is October 12th.  Hope to see you there.

Ladies Twilight

Janet Cantor

Our lady twilite league players had a fun time playing the course backwards for the last play of the 2016 season. Prizes and good times were had by all. Congratulations to the winning point team Scoular Co. with players Denise Matthews, Bonnie Coats, Amy Perkins, Deb Schvaneveldt. This was their second consecutive win! Coming in for second place was the Happy Hacker teams of Edna Pierson, Judy West, Priscilla Malone, Peggy Stanley, and Dawn Soto. Thank you to Babe Hansen and Barb Reynolds for donating raffle prizes.

Please know that we welcome all members to join a team. Teams usually form and shift players in the early Spring. The twilite league play begins in May. If you would like to join a team please let Troy in the pro shop, Janet Cantor ([email protected]), or Babe Hansen,  ([email protected]) know.
