Dive in with the CRC this summer!

Dear Friends of the CRC Pool,

It is that time of the year to brush off winter's chill, enjoy the spring, and get ready for another fantastic summer on Chebeague Island. The staff at the Chebeague Rec Center are hard at work to provide a myriad of fun, healthy, and stimulating programs. Please check out the Summer Calendar on the website at ChebeagueRec.com/Summer.

This past summer, we successfully opened the pool after nearly two years under cover. This was a heroic effort driven by the CRC staff and May Hall, who worked together over several weeks to clean and balance the pool and make sure all the equipment was ship shape. (A special shoutout to May, our licensed pool operator, who volunteered all of her time for the entire season! Thank you May!)

The CRC also successfully trained 10 Red Cross certified lifeguards through Lighthouse Health and Safety. We appreciate these young adults helping the CRC keep the pool safe for all and are excited to see five of last summer's corps returning to the CRC pool this year. This Scholarship program was supported by your contributions to the pool and a generous matching grant. We thank you for your support and hope we can count on you again this year to expand our pool programs. We hope to raise $20,000 by July 1st, and the CRC has again secured a matching grant to help us achieve the CRC's pool goals.

Your donation to the Pool now provides twice the support!

Please donate now by clicking on this link. Thank you in advance for your support.

  • CRC will also be offering the Red Cross Water Safety Instruction course this year over Memorial Day weekend. This is an excellent course that will prepare our swim instructors to teach "Learn to Swim" programs here at CRC and beyond. CRC will be offering up to 6 Water Safety Instruction Scholarships this year to teach at the CRC this summer. If you are interested in applying, please follow this link for more information. The program will also be made available to the public for a class maximum of 12 individuals.

  • Learn-to-Swim Lessons! Our struggle in offering this program has been instructors. We anticipate, through the Water Safety Instruction course, that we will be able to offer swim lessons to our children this summer. Let us know your interest in the program and the weeks you would like them offered through this link.
  • Adult Swim Clinics will be offered by our very own Kim Goodwin, a certified USMS coach, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for four weeks in July and August. This program is designed for all levels of adult lap swimmers who want to improve their stroke technique, endurance, or add variety to their workout. Kim's clinics are open to CRC members at a reduced rate but open to all! Visit this link to sign up now, and you can contact Kim directly to discuss your goals.
  • Masters Swimming Summer Fun Camp is coming to the CRC August 8-10 and is open to the first 20 swimmers who sign up. The camp will be led by Coach Mark Stori from the University of California, Santa Barbara. We are expecting swimmers from "away" as well as our local talent. The camp is designed to develop skills but driven for fun and camaraderie with morning workouts, afternoons exploring the island, and a fantastic dinner at the Slow Bell and lobster bake at the Inn. Explore now at this link.

  • Lap Swimming will be offered each morning from 8:00am to 11:30am from July 1st through September 15th, subject to limits with other programs which will be detailed in the CRC Pool Calendar. Please come out and enjoy a morning swim with us!
  • And of course, we will have open Family Fun swimming every afternoon from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. We hope the entire island community will come out and enjoy the fun.

We look forward to a happy, healthy, and safe Summer Pool Season...and remember, your donation will be matched 100% through July 1st! Please join us in supporting the Pool programs by giving generously.
