Due to liability, legal and safety concerns, our trustees are asking volunteers and clients to follow our guidelines. Our volunteers are not permitted to transport or give money to clients.

The Good Neighbors Food Center's entrance and parking lot are located at 1460 Bingham Path, Akron, 44305

    Yolonda from Care Source continues to provide reusable cloth bags to distribute groceries and supplies for our clients. She assists our volunteers on many Thursdays.
    Thank you to Flowers Bakery, Whole Foods, Giant Eagle,  Panera Bread, Land O'Lakes Butter and the Humane Society of Summit County for their donations throughout the year.
    We purchase food and other items at a discounted price from the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank. We purchase paper bags, toilet paper, bar soap, dental supplies and bread from local distributors and stores. 
    Our sympathy and condolences to the family of our past Wednesday volunteer Larry Steurer. He was a generous supporter and dedicated volunteer for many years.
    Our sympathy and condolences to Shirley & Mike Letta and Deborah Hayden. Shirley and Deborah recently lost their mothers.
    Continued prayers and get well wishes for volunteers Susan ReynoldsBrenda Cox, Linda FarisJanice Cuckler and Richard McMasters. We are happy that Brenda and Linda recently returned to volunteer on Wednesdays.
    John & Brenda Ferguson delivered new hats, gloves, socks, scarves, slippers and pajamas for Christmas giving from the members of  Wedgewood United Methodist Church.  
    Westminster Presbyterian Church continues to donate groceries every month, and funds every quarter. The following churches provided funding and/or donated food and other items last year: Bath Church, Cornerstone Community Church, Eastwood Church of the Brethren, Firestone Park Christian Church, Grace Baptist Church, Green Valley United Methodist Church and Harmony Springs Church.
    An anonymous donor from Carter Lumber donates gift cards every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas to help us purchase turkeys and hams. Doug Miller purchases food from Acme Fresh Market and donates it to our food center throughout the month.
    The following schools recently held food drives to benefit our food center: Barber, Buchtel, East, Ellet, Firestone, Hatton, Hoban, McEbright, Miller South, Portage Path, Resnik, Robinson, Seiberling and NIHF STEM High School. Hatton CLC donated 550 boxes of cereal. Valerie Straw coordinates our food drives and our food center volunteers pick up these donations. IBH volunteers have been assisting our volunteers with sorting these items. 
    Wednesday volunteer Bob Roberts spent more than 4 hours scrubbing our food center floor over the holidays. Wilma McMasters, Kathy Frye and their Thursday volunteer crew scrub the floors and defrost our freezers throughout the month.       
    Archbishop Hoban High School and Walsh Jesuit High School Students continue to volunteer over holidays, spring and summer breaks. 
    Volunteers George Camilletti, Bill Sudduth, Mike Letta, Roger Reynolds, Bill Wise, Paul Iacobucci, Bill Genovese, Jenny Siebert, Deborah Hayden, Bob & Lynn Roberts, Wilma McMasters, Kathy Frye and Gail McAlister pick up food every week from the food bank, local stores, restaurants and food drives. IBH volunteers help unload the trucks when we have large food orders. Beth Stalnaker Burch and John & Julie Bates have been picking up donations from churches. 
    Thank you to ALL of our hard-working and dedicated volunteers who pick up food from the food bank, grocery stores and food drives; stock shelves; maintain and clean the building; serve our clients; donate food and personal care items; and fund our food center. 
    Charlene Nevada Krummel and George Camilletti have been busy applying for grants to support our food center and central office. The following foundations provided funding last year: Albrecht Family Trust, M.G. O'Neil Foundation, Magnolia Star Foundation, Mills Memorial Foundation, Moffitt Foundation, Boggess Foundation, Akron Community Foundation, Children's Millennium Fund of Akron Community Foundation and  Catholic Charities
    During the 588 hours that we were open in 2023, our volunteers gave nearly 16,000 hours to serve more than 10,773 families which included 36,325 individuals. More than 90 students were helped with back to school supplies and more than 125 families received hams and/or turkeys for the holidays. Our volunteers donated and distributed Christmas gifts, coats, hats and gloves. More clients were served than included in our statistics. Some of our volunteers served clients when we were closed or when there were language barriers. Those visits were not entered into our database, so not included in our numbers.
    George Camilletti manages and maintains our central office, food center and annex buildings and property. He also serves as our Trustee Chairman and Ways & Means Chairman. We appreciate Bill Wise assisting George with maintenance in the food center and annex buildings. Bill volunteers on Thursdays and serves as a trustee.
    Our food center is open Monday through Thursday from 12-3 p.m. We only close for some of the holidays and when the Akron Public Schools are closed due to the weather.
    Thank you to all of our volunteers and supporters for your generosity and help throughout the year.

The Cuyahoga Falls Unit of Good Neighbors

The Cuyahoga Falls Good Neighbors is located at 1742 2nd Street, Cuyahoga Falls, 44221

    Alice Beatty reported for the Cuyahoga Falls Unit:
    We received substantial donations from the community. The following schools had donation drives: Stow-Munroe Falls Schools - Kimpton Middle School and Riverview Elementary; Cuyahoga Falls Schools - Cuyahoga Falls High School, Roberts Middle School, Bolich Middle School and Silver Lake Elementary. Bethany UCC and Holy Family churches both held canned food drives for our clients. We received canned goods, non-perishables and warm winter clothing from the following businesses and organizations thru their donation drives: Boy Scout Troop 155, City of Cuyahoga Falls, Cuyahoga Falls Octoberfest Committee, Goldfish Swim School, HB Chemical Company, HiHo Brewing Company, Italian American Club, Moose Lodge #918, NeoNet and Tiki Underground.
    Countless individual donors also provided us with both food and monetary donations. We could not survive without all the generous community support!
    We ended the year proudly: 1357 local families visited multiple times; 3874 individuals received food, clothing and toiletries; 570 families received gift bags and holiday goodies; 560 students  received backpacks full of school supplies; 70 volunteers worked  15,000 hours; 220 tons of food was distributed.

The Ellet Unit of Good Neighbors

The Ellet Good Neighbors is located on the first floor of North Springfield Presbyterian Church, 2630 Albrecht Avenue, Akron, 44312

    Chris Krinjeck Bolyard manages the Ellet Unit.
    Our deepest sympathy and condolences to volunteer Jennifer Meyer, who recently lost her husband. 
    ​Clothing, food, gift cards and monetary donations are always needed.  Thank you to our volunteers and supporters.
    We are open on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of every month from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.

The Green Unit of Good Neighbors

The Green Good Neighbors is located in the back of Greensburg United Methodist Church, 2161 Greensburg Road, Green, 44232

    Patricia Stiles manages the Green Unit and reported that our food chairman Ken Roskos will be out for 6 weeks to 2 months with surgery but Richard Stratton has stepped up and will fill in for him. 
    We have wonderful volunteers that fill in when needed.
    Last year, our volunteers gave more than 8,664 hours to help 813 families (1,557 adults/1,033 children) with clothing and 1,486 families (1,576 adults/1,463 children/1,218 seniors) with food. 120 students received back to school supplies, 69 families/178 children received Christmas gifts, 124 families/359 individuals received gift cards for Christmas. We gave away $3,825 food gift cards for Christmas.
    We are open on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Open the first 4 Wednesdays of the month, closed the 5th Wednesday of the month. 

The Superior-Wooster Clothing Unit
of Good Neighbors

The Superior-Wooster Good Neighbors is located in Centenary United Methodist Church, 1310 Superior Avenue, Akron, 44307

    Lee Thomas and Wilma McMasters manage the Superior-Wooster Clothing Unit.
    Every week, 10-12 families are receiving clothing. Every new school year, many students receive new underclothing.
    Personal care items and baby diapers are always needed. 
​    We are open on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. until noon. 

The Tallmadge Unit of Good Neighbors

The Tallmadge Good Neighbors is located at 74 Community Drive, Tallmadge, 44278

    Our volunteers gave 2,236 hours to help 309 families (643 individuals) with clothing and 494 families (1,057 individuals) with food. Most of these families received help for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and back to school.
    Candy Lorkowski who manages the Tallmadge Unit, reported that they would like to thank their generous community for allowing us to be able to share even more food and larger size gift cards with our clients for Christmas. We would like to thank Carol & Tom Reese for their service and wish them well as they begin their new volunteer opportunity. We wish everyone a Happy Spring!
    We are open on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
