Our Community Ministry, Art and Recovery has resumed for the Fall season and we are enjoying painting gemstones with each group of women that visits the Studio on Monday nights. Through this project, we are learning more about our value in God's eyes and the treasures we can celebrate alongside our journeys through life and the process of overcoming in recovery. These nights are full of healing, community, and hope, and we get to celebrate each participant on their unique journey alongside our community partner, Into the Neighborhood. We are excited to announce that our students from Community Partners Imago Dei Neighborhood School and Youth Life Foundation of Richmond are participating in a contest for the artwork that will be displayed on Christmas thank you cards for the Richmond Christmas Mother Fund. As you can see, our students are excited for the opportunity, and we can't wait to see what they create! Thank you to Jacquelin Ukrop Aronson (pictured below) for this special opportunity. Youth Life Foundation of Richmond is visiting the Studio on Friday, October 6th, for their Fun Fridays field trip, this time making beautiful nativity artwork. See more about Christmas at the Studio at the end of this newsletter!

In the Gallery: Current & Upcoming Artists
Elaine Bankston's beautiful work will be displayed in the gallery through October 23rd. We welcomed guests to a reception on September 24th, and have greatly enjoyed seeing Elaine's work adorn our walls.
Our very own Elizabeth King will be our next gallery artist! Elizabeth is an art therapist/artist who leads our Art and Recovery nights, and we look forward to seeing her own creative expression in the Gallery at Make Studio. More details coming soon!
We hosted another Sober Sip & Paint night in September, complete with fall-themed mocktails and a painting of a fall floral bouquet. We love seeing both new and returning faces at the Studio on these nights, and look forward to our last event of the year, "Paint Your Own Christmas Gift" on November 10th. Registration link below.
Children's Classes at the Studio
Preschool After School Art, Elementary After School Art, and Homeschool Art Classes are now in swing, and colorful creations are abounding in the studio. Pictured above is our Homeschool Art Class, and below is our NEW Preschool After School Art Class. Several spots are still open. Students are creating a project inspired by Piet Mondrian and learning about lines and shapes.
Adult Classes and Workshops
Artist Kate Burns led a one-day watercolor workshop in September (pictured below), and the event was a huge success! Guests explored the basics of watercolor under Kate's excellent guidance, and took home their own watercolor paintings. Our Visual Journaling Class with Artist Lauren Bleam is also underway at the Studio on Wednesday evenings.

Merry & Bright Art & Recovery Christmas Party
At 6PM on December 11th, we will host our annual Art and Recovery Christmas Party, "Merry and Bright" with Community Partner Into the Neighborhood. This is our time to celebrate Christmas with the Art and Recovery community by setting up 5 stations for making gifts for yourself or a loved one, a place to make and send Christmas cards, and a spot to wrap and take your gifts. We also enjoy a potluck style meal together. We need donations of small Children's party favor toys, bags of candy and mini Christmas baubles for Christmas cracker making, as well as Christmas gift bags, tissue paper, Christmas scrapbook paper and gift tags. We are accepting donations at the Studio between now and November 30th. If you are unable to donate items, please consider donating to support the costs of hosting this annual party by clicking on the donate button below. Items can be dropped off anytime Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the studio in the donation bin outside the door. Email [email protected] for more information.
Children's Christmas Workshop
On December 15th, we are hosting a children's Christmas workshop inside the Studio from 4-7PM. We will have loads of fun creating a Christmas-themed project and enjoying pizza together.
